No matter what I do it still looks grubby.

No idea.

Mine is discustin'. Eating breakfast in it may have contributed to this state of affairs.

Watching so I can learn Grin

I thought loads of people would have good ideas.

Wipes seem to be a necessity even though I hate using them. I've been meaning to buy the gooey stuff you use for computer keyboards to clean those awkward areas near the handbrake.

bettertimesarecomingnow · 14/05/2020 20:37

Yes! Get it professionally valeted!

Soontobe60 · 14/05/2020 20:41

Yep, a proper valet can't be replicated at home. Or at least that's my excuse!
I usually take mine to one of those car wash places that have sprung up and seem to be filled with Eastern European staff who are fab with a polishing cloth! Best £15 ever spent each month.

sestras · 14/05/2020 20:55

Shark car attachments, wipes for leather or carpet shampooer for fabric seats if they're rank.

blaaake · 14/05/2020 20:57

Professional valet is the only thing that makes mine presentable, for some reason no vacuum cleaner I've ever tried to use in there has ever managed to make it look decent, like you OP it always looks grubby Confused not even got the kids as an excuse as it's only me in the car 90% of the time!

OhioOhioOhio · 14/05/2020 21:03

Oh. I thought there must be a way of sorting it that I hadn't realised.

Take all the mats out and vacuum them. Beat them with something to loosen the grit. Vacuum everything including seats, hard surfaces and ceiling like crazy using alll the attachments. Especially the small one with a brush. Then repeat using a paint brush to loosen dust in nooks and crevices. Open all the doors and vacuum the metal gullies around the doors. Wipe them
All our and dry them. upholstery cleaner on stains. Then soapy water on hard plastic. Then furniture polish. Then glass cleaner. Then never use the car again.

fallfallfall · 14/05/2020 21:15

there are products for the upholstery and vinyl parts.
start with a full vacuum, then dust, then wipe down with the product of your choice (we use armor all mat finish) and do the inside and outside of windows with windex type stuff. it's a full day's job for me; scrubbing the mats running the cups holders through the wash etc etc etc.

Finals1234 · 14/05/2020 21:16

I have got the Shark attachments too but never got round to using them. I might give hem a go this weekend. I usually pay to get my car cleaned but it does seem wasteful when I now have time at the weekends to do this myself.

I'm addicted to watching The Detail Geek on You Tube. He can make the mankiest car look fab.

Perhaps you could pick up some tips from him.

I'm addicted to watching The Detail Geek on You Tube.

Me too!! Grin and loads of other car detailing videos. They’re fascinating!

OhioOhioOhio · 14/05/2020 21:27

Thank you!

Professional valet when insurance work is being done. Then get the country to go into lockdown so you aren’t allowed to drive anywhere, except shopping (without kids).

Voila! Cleanest my car has been ever.

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 14/05/2020 21:39

Trained car valeter here. I'd just get it done professionally as they have all the hoover attachments and potions.

Clarinet53 · 14/05/2020 22:08

Thought it was just me that watched detail geek 😂🙈

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 14/05/2020 22:25

Take it to the nice men in the shopping centre car park who do it for me. Grin
