To take two year old to A&E if I can’t get through to GP?

WIBU to take 2 year old to A&E? Drs just rings and rings. He fell in the garden sort of landed on top of his foot (I didn’t see it DH was with him). But now can’t put weight on one of his ankles. It’s been like that since about 10 this morning.

He’s a bit grumpy but otherwise fine, apart from not being able to walk. There is no swelling that I can tell so not sure if A&E is over the top? Don’t want to go if not necessary and obviously don’t want to expose us to corona if we don’t have to.

What would you do?

There's an app called WaitLess. It tells you the wait times in your local a&e departments. Dh had to go yesterday for an x-ray and he waited for 3 minutes. He said he felt very safe, everyone was taking the necessary precautions.

We have no minor injuries nearby and local A&E is 30 miles away. Had to take near 2 year old there last night as he fell and split oopen near his eyebrow. We were in and out within 45 minutes

They'll whizz you through in no time, I bet! Our local hospital was deserted when I had to go a few weeks back and I was in, treated and out before my appointment time.

How's your munchkin now OP? Really hope it'd not fractured and he's on the mend soon.

How did it go at A and E? Hope your little boy is okay.

10:00-15:00 without medical treatment and your toddler couldn't weight bare?
Superb.
Hmm

Ahh savingshoes there is ALWAYS one who comes along to cover themselves in glory to support with comforting words of wisdom.

Thank you for your wise and helpful comment.

Now kindly fuck off back to the smug hole you came from.

Moving on. 3 hours there in total. Was actually quite busy. Wonder if that is linked to restrictions being lifted?

X-ray was clear but the consultant wanted a semi-cast on just as a precaution. At no point was I berated for not bring him in sooner.

Thanks for all the helpful comments.

Thank you for updating us. You did the right thing. Ignore SavingShoes. I'm glad that your DS hasn't broken anything and hope that he heals soon.

Glad everything looks OK Readysetcake, Wine and Chocolate for your trying day.

JudyCoolibar · 18/05/2020 22:08

@Savingshoes, no-one can bare weight, whether for 5 hours or longer. Unless, maybe, you're in the habit of putting clothes onto old fashioned weights and then taking them off again.
Superb.

HedgeHogFoxBadger · 18/05/2020 22:21

savingshoes idiot.
Glad he is ok x

QuestionableMouse · 18/05/2020 22:37

Wait less doesn't cover everywhere. Bot of my local a&es are on there.

I wouldn't worry OP my DS hurt his leg once and wouldn't put weight on it or walk, I left him from 10am-6pm ish before I took him to the hospital because he wasn't crying or in any discomfort, turns out he had fractured his leg, felt absolutely awful about it but because he wasn't crying out in pain I didn't think for one second he could of broken it! Hope he's okay now! Thanks
