Returning my children to school Vs 'going' to work

I know there have been many a thread on this subject.

My kids school have asked if we are willing to send out boys back to school in June. It was a big fat NO from us. We don't want our children to be used as guinea pigs.

DP is currently working from home. I work from the office. we're both 'keyworkers' and I say that lightly.

I CAN work from home. Many of my colleagues are due to health issues. I'm considering asking if I can do the same. We would be able to manage homeschooling in the day without it affecting our workloads. There is no time restriction in regards to 'live-schooling' or zoom etc.

We live in in a town heavily affected by coronavirus.

Is it worth asking my manager if I can work from home too? She will be more than able to see what work I can produce.

I'm just scared. My youngest has asthma and my relatives have serious health conditions.

This is the only way I can see this working.

No harm in asking - what have you got to lose?
I would ask

LambDhansak · 14/05/2020 13:41

Of course you can ask!

inwood · 14/05/2020 13:44

Why wouldn't you ask?

Isawthathaggis · 14/05/2020 13:48

I can’t see what the problem is? Just ask.

On a side note what does your relatives conditions have to do with your child going to school? Do you all live together?

Topsy44 · 14/05/2020 13:51

If that is what works for you, then definitely ask. The worst they can say is no.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 14/05/2020 13:57

Of course you can ask. But do you really think you can do your full workload AND adequately home school your child, such that they can keep up with peers who return to school? Mumsnet is full of threads by desperate parents struggling to even occupy children enough for them to do any work at all, let alone home school them properly.

If you really can, the productivity required in your job must be low in normal times.
