...to be slightly amused by MN's current obsession with toilets?

lighthearted, clearly...

But on a number of threads over the last few days, usually about people asking about being able to go out more/drive a bit further etc - about 50% of replies seem be barely controlled panic about "but where will you wee?"/"but there are no toilets!". We (no pun intended ;-)) seem to have an obsession with public facilities ;-)

Maybe it's the predominance of woman of a certain age ;-), or recent mothers!

@peoplepleaser1 - Oooo... it comes in a box, then you can practice the lockdown cleaning habits - it has some weird curves... so used to have a separate bottle brush - Oh my... reading it back makes me giggle - brings back memories! Grin Grin

HighlandYak · 13/05/2020 22:04

What do I do with it afterwards though?
Shake it out or rinse with water if you have, put it in the container and give it a clean when you get home!

tilder · 13/05/2020 22:06

What @wanderings said.

Toilets are a MN obsession.

There’s something doing the rounds on fb at the moment from an epidemiologist who says public toilets are one of the highest risk areas for picking up the virus. Not surprising then that people don’t want to make too many wee breaks.

ITonyah · 13/05/2020 22:08

from an epidemiologist who says public toilets are one of the highest risk areas for picking up the virus i have said this from the beginning.

NurseJaques · 13/05/2020 22:13

I often don't pee for an entire shift at work so I would manage Grin

Not intending on any day trips though!

Samtsirch · 13/05/2020 22:21

@PatriciaHolm
Oh I think that you are far more than “ slightly amused “, to have started a whole separate thread about it, you little naughty!!!
🤣😆🤣

Samtsirch · 13/05/2020 22:25

I have been put in mind of the “ Victoria Wood “ sketch about free weeing, and trying to avoid the nettles, weeing on your shoes etc....😂

FizzyPink · 13/05/2020 23:01

I’ve actually been thinking about this quite a lot and I do wee very frequently.
DP has to go back to work this week. He works outside but they’re not opening up the toilets and obviously no public ones are open. I think he’s going to have to come home in the middle of the day to use the facilities.

B0bbin · 13/05/2020 23:03

It's a big problem. I have been trying yo get some exercise snd struggle on longer walks.

eurochick · 14/05/2020 04:39

I've scanned the thread but can't see that anyone has mentioned periods. On my heavier days I need to access a toilet every couple of hours.

squishee · 14/05/2020 04:43

There are apps for locating public toilets. No, really.

GinnyStrupac · 14/05/2020 05:49

Clearly this is something that did not trouble the walker who peed in open view in our lane, or those leaving used nappies on the floor in the car park or in the overflowing bin near the closed public loos - all delightful additions to our National Park just now.

For those contemplating a wild wee or worse, let me alert you to ticks in grass and bushes, especially in areas frequented by sheep, cattle, horses, hedgehogs, rabbits and deer. Tick bites and the possibility of Lyme Disease are a harsh reality of the countryside, especially between March and October. You might want to wait until you get home or even better still stay local until tourist areas are ready to welcome visitors back.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/05/2020 08:08

Mumsnet has always been obsessed with toilets. Although it's funny that in normal times the consensus is that public toilets are to be avoided at all costs and many would never use one, or use the toilet at work and wait until they get home, and if you can't do this, you must have some kind of medical condition.

But now, people are worrying about the public toilets that they probably wouldn't use anyway not being open when they go to the beach or wherever. Grin

Yes, I know it's not the same people and everyone is different, but it's funny how it's the first thing people are worrying about now that we're allowed out again.

orangesandlemo · 14/05/2020 08:58

I have three kids and really need to wee regularly partly from drinking so much coffee to stay away and partly from poor pelvic muscles. I fully admit I am obsessed with toilets and not going anywhere with no toilet facilities. Even in lock down i go for a wee before going for a walk and often need a wee by the time I get to the park we walk in ! But whilst I can hold it for an hour there is no way I can hold it in for a day trip 😂😂😂

Booboodisney · 14/05/2020 09:32

Wild wees are a way of life. I will defend them to the end. Imagine worrying about getting a tick bite on yer fanny 😂

mrsbyers · 14/05/2020 11:04

I have had Crohn’s disease for 20 years and now have an ileostomy bag - toilets are usually the first thing I consider on any journey

mrsbyers · 14/05/2020 11:05

There are apps for locating public toilets. No, really

And absolutely essential for the hundreds of thousands of people with bowel / urinary conditions - really

bagpusscatpuss · 14/05/2020 11:08

I have bladder problems and rely on use of disabled toilets for various reasons so I don’t get why you think this is trivial or funny.

Frankiefree · 14/05/2020 11:14

For most women it is very important as can affect their ability to go out of the house. Frequent urination and caring for children are things that affect women more than men, and obviously women have periods for up to a week each month. It’s discussed on this forum as most of the media is run by men who are not affected by this. I live in a very urban area and there are no bushes to hide behind! Men are more able or willing to find a hidden doorway, access area or alleyway.
