Prolapse advice?

Me and my friend have both had significant vaginal damage from birth. Neither of us knew prolapse was caused mainly by vaginal birth. Or even that it existed when we got pregnant!

Question is...how manageable is it? Mine is only mild at the moment, but I am in a lot of discomfort. I've already been told by one lady how she has had to have two ops and it's been dreadful for her.
Is anyone managing a large prolapse with a pessary? How has your prolapse progressed? If you've had an op has it been successful? If you do have advanced prolapse does it stay out when you're walking, does a pessary fall out?

So many questions! Me and my friend are so scared especially for the future...😌

If you would like to give some advice on how you've managed prolapse that would be great. Thanks!

Hi OP, I had an anterior and posterior prolapse after a forceps delivery with DC1 in 2009. I went on to have a straightforward with DC2 in 2011 and then had a successful surgical repair in 2013 as we'd completed our family.

The op was a bigger procedure than I'd realised, I was in hospital a week, bed bound for a further 2 and off work for 7 weeks but I've had no issues since. It worked brilliantly for me personally.

straightforward delivery

How far PP are you? I had a mild one which was still bloody awful. I could feel it all the time and it got worse if I lifted anything or went for a walk. I could feel it for about 10 months after The birth and now I can’t feel it at all. I went to a private specialist women’s health physio for advice about exercises, posture and breathing.

I think the main healer was time, and stopping breastfeeding.

I hope yours improves soon.

Are you bf? Ive got mild prolapse. I say mild, but actually it was moderate for the year PP when I was bf. It got gradually better in the second half of that year but hormones play a big part. Now I've had a second child (c-section) and am into the second 6 months of bf and it's barely noticeable atm. The only thing it stops me doing is running but I think some physio and core work to support everything will help

Ps I've been doing Pilates lately and that's definitely helped - I've realised I've spent years breathing all wrong when exercising and probably straining it.

I also had physio (nhs) after my first child which was essential. Like most women i was doing pelvic floor exercises quite wrong, and absolutely making it worse.

have you seen a birth physio who specialises in this sort of thing. I went to a class we did various excercises which did help.

@edwinbear
Sounds awful the op but I am glad you have been ok since.

@acquiescence and @NoIDontWatchLoveIsland
I'm 6 months postpartum. Not bf. I had planned to, but given the PTSD of being bluelighted to hospital from a home birth when my midwife said I'd be fine, having a rotational forceps delivery and pph the breastfeeding thing never came off. To also find out about prolapse, pain and constant discomfort was all a shock to me too. Any woman who can breastfeed with all that must be a lot better than me...and yes I do feel guilty.Sad

@kayBM. Please fine feel guilty about not BF. You have been through so much.
It’s still really early days for you, you’re busy has so much healing to do. I remember reading that it takes 22 months for your body to get back to what it was. I was much, much better after 12 months. At 6 months it was bad.

Have you seen a doctor or physio about the prolapse? Don't suffer in silence about it. It's a medical issue that can and should be treated.
