What did he mean when he said they may at least get some times with their teachers before schools break up? TBH it was so wishy washy I missed it the first time I listened to his plan. What do you think he meant?

How have Y12s finished, aren’t they in the middle of their A-level courses?

ineedaholidaynow · 14/05/2020 08:50

I think you have got your Years mixed up @TabbyMumz Y11s and Y13s are the ones that have finished. Y10s and Y12s will have their exams next year.

TabbyMumz · 14/05/2020 09:15

Ah yes, I have, too early in the morning for me, sorry. I have a child in 6th form college
and they dont call it years there.

My DS’s school use the old fashioned format so he is in Form 4 (Y10) so I always have to think about what year he is in too when posting on here!

Yr 12’s at college rather than sixth form schools finish the year in June. Although Colleges use this time to have international students for summer schools. That won’t be happening so perhaps colleges might offer teaching. Staff go back at the end of August rather than September though so not sure how working all the way through would work.

TabbyMumz · 14/05/2020 10:05

Yes, I know it as upper fifth and then 6th form still.

The problem is summer school for Yr 10 will be voluntary - few pupils will volunteer to come in. If the restrictions ease they are going to want to prioritise family and friends. If we are able to take domestic holidays, we are all going to want to go on them - teachers included. Even if all of my Year 10s come in, the volunteer would not be able to lead them through their NEA - I have to do that. It is their NEA that needs to be taught face to face- I've taught the theory during lockdown. They could go over the theory - but what is the point when they have spent the last 7 weeks doing it? I have to sign to authenticate their NEA work and I can't do that if I've not been part of it. If I volunteer to teach the summer school, my own kids will need to be put into childcare. If my school successfully runs this, there is no saying the school down the road will, so it won't be equitable which poses a problem for the exam boards. There are so many variables. With GCSE classes, the planning of the delivery of the curriculum is so tightly organised, a non specialist would struggle to step in and bridge the gap. In reality, it would need to be a specialist teacher which is just unrealistic.
