To cut my own hair?

My hairdresser frowns upon this but in honestly I'm not going to be able to go the hairdressers until July, maybe longer.

If I cut it now how would she notice in two months and would she even care?

It's long. I could just about manage a hack trim jobbie.

It's getting hard to comb and wash without knotting

Has nobody mentioned the MN haircut yet?smile

The MN haircut is very dated and reminiscent of the late 90s poker straight feathered layer look. I don't think it suits everyone but the girl in the video carries it off okay even though I think she looked better before.

Having said that, I've used the pony tail method from another video to cut dd's split ends and add a bit of layer and texture. It suits her.

I am thinking I am going to have to do my roots!!

I've cut my own hair for 20 years, after a salon visit that was so bad it was borderline traumatic. Usually it's just a case of doing a low ponytail, pulling the elastic to a couple of centimetres from the ends and lopping them off. Repeat until it's all the same length. Sometimes I add a few layers through the front, very occasionally I've done a fringe. My hair is thick, wavy and just past shoulder length.

I do DH and DD's hair, too. DD is 23 and has never been to a hairdresser.

Glad you went for it, OP!

I made DH cut mine at the weekend because it was looking so awful. Up came the scissors and DH was terrified. I was terrified too. He ended up cutting way more off than I'd asked for, but I love it ! Best cut I've had in years and my hair looks fabulous.Smile

DH did mine. I missed 2 appointments due to us getting nits twice and my hair was really really long. It’s far from a decent cut but I couldn’t cope with it the length it was.
I think it will have grown enough any damage will be easy to remedy by the time I see a hairdresser again.

I told DH he might have to cut mine yesterday and he refused! I like it bobbed, but really hate it when I can feel it on my shoulders. I''m tying it up at the moment but getting so fed up with it. I might just have to give it a go myself.

Davros · 12/05/2020 00:30

I cut mine because I have a shortish hairstyle and it looked really overgrown, not just a bit extra on the length. I did a small bit symmetrically each day over about four days. I used kitchen scissors Blush it definitely looks better

CoRhona · 12/05/2020 00:31

@shinynewapple2020 the easiest way to do a fringe is wet the hair, take the fringe section and twirl it round reasonably tightly, then cut across. Only take small amounts off at a time but can be repeated if necessary...

caringcarer · 12/05/2020 01:07

Two weeks ago I cut 5 or 6 inches off of mine. I just stood in front of mirror and did my best. Then washed it and when wet trimmed a bit more until it looked straight. It is still down to my bra at back and wondering whether to chop off a few more inches. If we are stuck in lockdown with no access to hairdresser what else can you do. I am having to use a home colour kit too. It looks ok.

I believe it's been re-christened as the "Covid Mullet". Grin

StrawberrySquash · 12/05/2020 17:27

@Nochangeplease Mine was due a cut and lockdown hit. It is past my shoulders and had just got to the point of physically annoying me. It always does at this length. So I chopped a few inches off and I'm far happier.
