Posting for traffic because I really need the hive mind/any doctors or nurses or medical professional/anyone with experience of this to tell me what the hell they think this is:

My son started today randomly crinking his neck, so that his ear touched his shoulder. Not a big deal, right? Except that at the same time his arm was pulling up and making a bit of a deformed claw with his hand. Every time. He is otherwise well but I emailed the paedatrician who has come back with quite an alarming email about needing to come in and see him ASAP. Not sure when he has availability waiting for an appointment but now DH and I are extremely worried about what this could be.

Please please please ignore the posters telling you that it's nothing. He needs oxygen soon and bloods done. Please don't leave it. I won't tell you how I know, but I know.

Shortfeet · 11/05/2020 19:16

@prontoe

Can you elaborate please

TwistyHair · 11/05/2020 19:18

I don’t know what it could be but Prontoe sounds sure it’s something serious. I’d go in to A&E.

Hippofrog · 11/05/2020 19:18

Prontoe, you may mean well but you are probably scaring the OP to death.

CatteStreet · 11/05/2020 19:20

Prontoe, not on, at all, to scare the OP like this and then say you 'won't tell how I know'.

blackcat86 · 11/05/2020 19:21

@prontoe "I wont tell you how I know but I know" isnt very helpful when you're telling the OP to race to A&E. You need to offer more information here given that the consultant has advised an appointment not A&E. That's not to say that you may not have valuable info that could help but you really do need to share it

Jellybean27 · 11/05/2020 19:21

Bloody hell @Prontoe! Throw her a bone and elaborate!

Porpoises · 11/05/2020 19:24

@prontoe what are your qualifications or experience? What condition are you suggesting the child has? Give some information, it's not fair to spread panic without an explanatoin.

flapjackfairy · 11/05/2020 19:27

Well as op hasn't responded she may already be on her way of course. I have a child with severe epilepsy and have seen all manner of seizures and this sounds seizure related to me though of course difficult to tell from a few lines.
I was trying not to panic her by putting it that bluntly but would definitely go straight in if this keep happening.
Hopefully I am wrong and it turns out to be something else . Good luck op x

Ginkypig · 11/05/2020 19:29

Prontoe

It's very unfair to post cryptically like that.

If this is from personal experience then of course you shouldn't have to share what happened within your family etc as that is your private experience and choice if you want to share but if you are going to give a scary and forceful message like that then you should at least say why as in what you think may be wrong.

For example if this was a rash and someone though it was meningitis that's what you would say you wouldn't just say rush him to a&e but I'm no that's going to tell you why just it's bad.

Op I'm sorry I don't have anything helpful to offer but I hop the paediatrician has got in touch.

lilgreen · 11/05/2020 19:32

Good luck op, hope it’s dealt with ASAP.

Prontoe · 11/05/2020 19:36

Ok, I had the exact same symptoms. Ambulance came and I was brought to hospital - to resus. My O2 levels were ok but my hands kept clawing back into my wrists. Then my jaw went and I couldn't speak (all in the ambulance). They did bloods but didn't test MG. My brother is a doctor so I had whatsapped him. He said to ask what my mg was as my K was low. So I did, and my Mg was 0.2. My brother was like shit, you could have had a seizure and died ffs. It means your muscles are seizing. Your heart is also a muscle. My brother said that I could have had a heart attack. Please don't ignore this. My brother is a paediatrician. Obviously I'm an adult. My bp was through the roof, I was put on oxygen and some sort of pumped drip in Resus. Turns out that all that was wrong was cholecystitis (infection of gallbladder), but it's not a fucking tic. Please get him to A&E.

GPwife2411 · 11/05/2020 19:37

OP if it helps and you're reading, I'm sitting next to a doctor (DH) and asked him if he would be really alarmed if it was our child exhibiting the behaviours described if the child was OTHERWISE WELL, as your son sounds like he is. DH definitely wouldn't be alarmed.

I hope you have been able to find some clear advice and reassurance.

GPwife2411 · 11/05/2020 19:38

Prontoe - that sounds horrible and I'm sorry that happened to you. However, I have run this past DH and the difference is that both your hands were clawing. With unilateral clawing (as with OP's son) it is highly unlikely to be anything systemic.

Prontoe · 11/05/2020 19:39

The reason that I didn't post that before is because A I'm not a doctor and B I didn't want to stress the OP. But she really needs to get the baby to a hospital.

MagnoliaJustice · 11/05/2020 19:39

It does sound like some kind of seizure activity. I hope your paediatrician has called back with an appointment. Otherwise, I would go to A&E. You won't have to wait long, A&E (the non-Covid bit) is generally quiet at the moment. Find out what is going on with your boy and get some peace of mind.

Lockheart · 11/05/2020 19:40

Honestly OP posting on here won't be helpful, all you'll do is end up worrying yourself further. Without seeing your son in person, even a qualified doctor will be no more use than a randomer on the street.

Please ignore everything on here, ignore Dr Google, and just wait to see your paediatrician.

Best of luck.

Hopefullynoneedtoworry · 11/05/2020 19:41

Jesus Christ I have just seen this as phone is charging and @Prontoe you have seriously panicked me.

He was doing all this in the park at 1/2pm a lot but then it tailored off in the afternoon after I brought him home so surely it isn’t urgent or a seizure if it stopped?! Surely if the paedatrician had something so sinister in mind he would have suggested a and e?

Thank you @GPwife2411 that’s along the lines of what the doctor said - to see him ASAP but if he’s otherwise well no IMMEDIATE cause for concern

OP posts:
Prontoe · 11/05/2020 19:41

GP wife - with respect, I have personal experience and my brother is a consultant paediatrician.

Prontoe · 11/05/2020 19:42

Well, I've done my duty. Believe your own instincts. If he's fine now, that's good for him.

SmileyClare · 11/05/2020 19:43

No one has said it's nothing. I said ignore the involuntary movement in front of her son, that's all. He shouldn't be encouraged to try and stop it or control it.

Ops ds has a paediatrician who has viewed her son via video and advised. I don't think it's helpful to post cryptic half diagnoses hinting that this is something sinister. Op is clearly concerned and keeping a close eye on it.

MMN123 · 11/05/2020 19:43

Yes understandable given your experience Prontoe but the child's mother has already discussed his symptoms with a paediatrician and there is nothing to suggest his condition is immediately life threatening. There are lots of things that can cause symptoms like this and while it sounds like he needs a reasonably urgent review with his doctor and possibly some investigations, it doesn't sound like something for A&E if he seems well in himself.

MMN123 · 11/05/2020 19:45

Your brother was right to be concerned about your symptoms, but the symptoms Op described are not the same as yours and I expect your brother would agree.

Hopefullynoneedtoworry · 11/05/2020 19:46

Fuck it i didn’t want to post photos but now I want to post some - is it fine to post some?

He’s asleep now.

To be clear, he has not seen him via video. He has seen photos of him doing it and heard my description and from
That gave his advice.
