To really not understand why people are OK with cats

Full disclosure, I'm allergic to cats and also very much a dog person but I really don't understand how it's acceptable for cats to go round decimating local wildlife and crapping in gardens.

I've lost count of how many times I've had to pick cat poo off the lawn and my daughter came in yesterday with cat sick all over her feet as a local moggie had vommed on our patio. I'm sick of it. It's a health hazard and you shouldn't have to wear a hazmat suit to go in your own garden.

We have tadpoles outside which are about to froglet and I've just seen a fat cat with its head in the water. I'm fuming, a few of the tadpoles are injured and this is the same cat I had to get off a terrified bird last week.

I'm not remotely sentimental about nature, if a hungry creature kills another then that's how life works. However I cannot understand how people can let these cats out knowing that they're injuring animals for no reason and causing health hazards to other people in their own home.

I couldn't take my dog for a shit in your garden so why can your cat do that in mine? They're not even natural predators as they just trot home to get their whiskers.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!

Because

To really not understand why people are OK with cats
To really not understand why people are OK with cats
To really not understand why people are OK with cats
DollyDoneMore · 10/05/2020 23:18

What? ‘Because’ they lick their own fannies?

Timekeeper1 · 10/05/2020 23:19

Omg @ghostyslovesheets your second picture looks IDENTICAL to my Annabelle. Same necklace marking, same eye markings, same facial expression. I had to look twice because I thought someone had taken a picture of my cat and posted it on here.

PerfidiousAlbion · 10/05/2020 23:24

I love them.

It’s in their nature to kill things.

A bit of sick never hurt anyone.

FlashesOfRage · 10/05/2020 23:26

Probs been said but;

Cats crap in the open and leave it uncovered specifically when there is a territorial dispute or your garden is a boundary 👍🤣

I don’t actually dislike dogs themselves. But I ducking hate the way they are allowed to behave by their owners.

My biggest problem is the constant insistence that off lead is essential and the entitlement most owners feel about that.
Off less dogs ruining beach time for people.
Off lead dogs scaring children (and adults).
Off lead dogs shitting wherever they like while the owner conveniently doesn’t watch too closely.
Off lead dogs getting into fights with other off lead dogs.
Off lead dogs bounding up to reactive and sensibly on lead dogs.
Off lead dogs with absolutely zero recall being the majority.
Off lead dogs attacking my cat sat in his own garden.

The owners never give a fuck and their dog has “never done that before”.

Hagisonthehill · 10/05/2020 23:27

Some people have found cat poo in their garden.
Everyone has at sometime accidentally trodden in dog poo.
It's not dogs that are the problem it's dog owners. Those that don't pick up after them and those that think we all love dogs and those that leave their dogs home alone all day, they don't have to put up with them barking, crying and howling.

quarantinevibes · 10/05/2020 23:30

Dogs stink, they drool, they eat their own shit, leave hair everywhere, poo everywhere too and jump up you. Oh and the barking and yapping, no thanks Envy

corythatwas · 10/05/2020 23:32

I prefer cats because they go to the toilet in my neighbours gardens 😇and I don’t have to go for walks with them carrying a bag of poo around.

This is why we were hardly able to use our garden when dc were little. All our neighbours had at least 1 cat, none of them liked going in their own garden. Ours stank to high heaven, my plants got dug up and there was always new cat poo. Nobody had actually asked me if I wanted to run a public cat lavatory.

No, I don't want all cats killed. But I do wish people who live in densely populated areas would think about how many cats a neighbourhood can reasonably support before it gets unbearable.

Alymcnabs · 10/05/2020 23:37

I am with you OP. I don’t understand why someone would choose a cat as a pet. They don’t do anything except wander, shit in the neighbours garden, kill birds and mice and turn up at home for food.

I see absolutely no point in cats tbh

Suzie6789 · 10/05/2020 23:39

Because they don’t smell, they are very soft, they give you cute little chirrups and head bumps when they like you, and they are fairly self sufficient.
The cat would have been drinking from your pond, probably after ungratefully refusing a lovingly poured, carefully tested, room temperature water from a special bowl. Mine is a bugger for refusing my water but will happily drink from a puddle outside.

Mummadeeze · 10/05/2020 23:42

I am allergic to cats too but I just love the watching the cats that visit my garden from a safe distance. It brightens up my day at the moment. None of them have ever been sick or pooped however, sounds like you have been a bit unlucky!

slipperywhensparticus · 10/05/2020 23:42

Mine are indoor cats one is showing an inclination to come outside with me so I'm getting him a harness to keep him on a lead in my garden anti cat people are bstshit crazy and think poison is appropriate deterrent

Davros · 10/05/2020 23:43

Only shits on her own doorstep. Much to my annoyance

frugalkitty · 10/05/2020 23:44

IcyWind I definitely love my cat more than my children, they've even given up arguing about which of them is my favourite child because they know it's none of them Grin

angelikacpickles · 10/05/2020 23:51

Because they don’t smell

They do, their breath stinks.

I don't understand why is is considered ok to keep an animal as a pet but allow it to shit wherever it likes. I also don't understand why people think cats are clean - they're not, they're covered in cat spit. And I really don't understand why people let them walk on their countertops (or in their dishwashers).

I'm not fussed about dogs either though TBH.

TooGood2BeTrue · 10/05/2020 23:52

It's not hard to cover the tadpoles with netting or something similar that cats can't pull off.
Agree with PPs that often dogs are much more annoying than cats because they attack, chase, don't leave you alone, etc. And there are plenty of dog owners who don't clean up after their dogs.

maresydoats · 10/05/2020 23:56

Each to their own as long as...

A. outdoor cats don't shit in my garden
B. Dogs don't howl and bark at all times.

The owners seem to be oblivious. But whatever, I will not forgive them.

Timekeeper1 · 11/05/2020 00:03

@angelikacpickles Have you ever smelled a dog's breath? A cat's breath smells like roses compared to the disgusting doggy smell on it's breath.

Cat's 'spit' is it's own detergent especially for them to wash themselves with. It has no smell. It also has healing properties in it (hence the term 'licking their wounds').

angelikacpickles · 11/05/2020 00:09

@Timekeeper1

I'm not sure what the smell of dogs' breath has to do with anything? I'm not a fan of dogs either. Doesn't change the fact that cats' breath stinks!

And I couldn't give a hoot whether their spit has healing properties!

raskolnikova · 11/05/2020 00:17

I love cats, I've always been a cat person.

Some people don't like cats, I get that, we can't all like the same things in life. However, I do find that some people hate cats with a viciousness I find disturbing. Like it's not enough to just not be into cats or find them a bit annoying, they have to let you know how much they despise them and resent any interaction they should have with them. I don't understand that at all.

CayrolBaaaskin · 11/05/2020 00:18

They’re pooing in your garden because they can tell you don’t like them

MrFaceyRomford · 11/05/2020 00:19

Cats are wonderful! Go moggies.

Crookshanksthecat · 11/05/2020 00:23

Most cats bury their poo. Mine poo in our garden and bury it, I know this because I see them doing it.

Dogs on the other hand just poo all over the place in public places and don't make any effort to cover it and many of their filthy owners just leave it. Every time I go out for a walk I see at least half a dozen dog poos left on paths. I don't understand why dog owners think this is ok?!!

Cats are clean, quiet and pretty self sufficient. It's not a competition and I do like some dogs but most I know bark endlessly, jump up at you, lick your hands or try to steal your food to mention just a few unpleasant habits.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 11/05/2020 00:30

But...

they PURR!!

🤣🤣🤣

terrelontane · 11/05/2020 00:42

I'm with you OP. You want a pet cat? Fine. But keep it away from me, I don't want anything to do with it.
