To really not understand why people are OK with cats

Full disclosure, I'm allergic to cats and also very much a dog person but I really don't understand how it's acceptable for cats to go round decimating local wildlife and crapping in gardens.

I've lost count of how many times I've had to pick cat poo off the lawn and my daughter came in yesterday with cat sick all over her feet as a local moggie had vommed on our patio. I'm sick of it. It's a health hazard and you shouldn't have to wear a hazmat suit to go in your own garden.

We have tadpoles outside which are about to froglet and I've just seen a fat cat with its head in the water. I'm fuming, a few of the tadpoles are injured and this is the same cat I had to get off a terrified bird last week.

I'm not remotely sentimental about nature, if a hungry creature kills another then that's how life works. However I cannot understand how people can let these cats out knowing that they're injuring animals for no reason and causing health hazards to other people in their own home.

I couldn't take my dog for a shit in your garden so why can your cat do that in mine? They're not even natural predators as they just trot home to get their whiskers.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!

Same 😂

Shell4429 · 12/05/2020 18:04

I quite like cats, ours had to be put to sleep last year just before her 20th birthday. What I don’t understand is why people can’t keep their cats indoors with a litter tray. That’s what we did.

FelicisNox · 12/05/2020 18:06

I agree. I've had cats and dogs and I can definitely see why cats were chosen to be the guardians of the underworld; they're relentlessly vicious.

I've literally never met or owned a cat who wasn't a complete asshole.

Thankfully I have a dog now so the cat problem is a thing of the past.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 12/05/2020 18:06

What I don’t understand is why people can’t keep their cats indoors with a litter tray.

Cos they want to go out, not be locked inside. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Coolteddybears · 12/05/2020 18:06

Cats leave their poo in everyone else's garden but their own. Kill hundred of thousands of our birds, scratch our cars relentlessly. There was a great chat on Radio 4 some while ago where the guest said we should shoot all cats that venture outside. I agree, they are no use or ornament, only loved by their owners. So should be kept indoors 24/7. Spread serious disease through their poo. I rest my case. I love dogs.

My beautiful boys no trouble to anyone, indoor

To really not understand why people are OK with cats
Watermelontea · 12/05/2020 18:20

I don’t like them.
I don’t like that they poo in my flower beds and on my lawn, I don’t like that some people don’t neuter their males and they piss all over my fence and it stinks, and I don’t like that one little shit ripped the throat out of my beloved pet rabbit when it was in its run.
No amount of cat photos will change my mind, as I don’t find them cute in the slightest.

conveniencestore · 12/05/2020 18:20

Get a couple of sonic cat scarers for your gardens - they do work to put off cats coming in your garden.

By the way, hoards of magpies decimated the baby bird population in my garden last year - they ate every last baby blackbird (causing dreadful commotion from the parents) over the course of several attacks, as well as the baby crows (also causing noisy upset to the parents). It was all very upsetting. No cat I have ever owned has ever caused that level of decimation.

Carol44 · 12/05/2020 18:21

Because they make me laugh at least once a day.

mbosnz · 12/05/2020 18:21

I hate dog poo, even if a dog owner is so kind as to pick it up and bag it, far too often it's hung over a bush, or thrown in the general direction of the already over-full bin that you have to hold your breath to go past. I hate dog owners with dogs that aren't under effective voice control and rush aggressively at people, with their owners ineffectually bleating 'oh, bless 'em, he's perfectly friendly!', or, if he growls, 'well 'e's never done that before' - while glaring suspiciously at the dogs target. I really don't like dog owners who allow their dogs to snap at other dogs, chase cats, and attack people.

I do, however, very much like dogs. I just think that far too many owners ought to be fitted with a shock collar.

icedgem85 · 12/05/2020 18:22

I'm not a big cat fan, but it won't be cat poo on your garden, it will be fox poo!

JerryGiraffe · 12/05/2020 18:29

Seriously?! I am working front line so plenty to worry about. The added pleasure of coming home after long shifts and dodging the cat crap on the drive is a real highlight in my day, as is having to de-poop the garden before ds can play safely outside on a rare day off. Don't own a cat Not sure how that makes me deranged but hey, duly noted!

Dutchesss · 12/05/2020 18:32

Cats do poo on lawns! How can so many people be oblivious to this? Has no one with a cat ever found an uncovered poo in the litter tray?
I'm honestly confused why people are denying this. I've seen them do it.
I've found the shorter the grass the less likely cats are to poo on it.

MamaKarmaLlama · 12/05/2020 18:40

@Watermelontea digs shit everywhere too, namely all over the grass verge up to my son’s school. They also attack things, can be vicious, savage animals, livestock included. Spread diseases. Eat hideous things and vomit up everywhere, try and shag you. Attack and cause serious damage to people, including infants and babies...I could go on.

Middersweekly · 12/05/2020 18:45

I’ve had enough cats shitting in my garden to agree that they are a nuisance. They also like to leave dead victims of prey half eaten on pavements etc.
I once had a neighbour complain that my rescue dog barked at her when she walked past my back fence. I told her he was a rescue dog and very wary of strangers near his territory (For context he’s a Pomeranian so his bark is laughable). She told me her rescue cat wasn’t causing any problem to anyone... 🙄 I had to calmly explain that cats don’t bark and also that my dog doesn’t shit in her garden like her cats do in mine! Total nutter....the moral is you can’t trust a crazy cat lazy! 🤣

Notanother1 · 12/05/2020 18:46

YANBU Bloody things come in my house and shit in my bedroom if I leave a window open more than an inch, let alone the garden. Hate the things.

And I would happily report you to the police. Quietly, with no shouting.

FourPlasticRings · 12/05/2020 18:57

I HATE THE STINKING CATS SHIT ALL OVER MY GARDEN AND WILL HAPPILY HURT THE CATS IF I CAN TO STOP THEM COMING

Aaaaand breathe. Calm down. Get some rest. Come back when you're more rational.

Tas1984 · 12/05/2020 18:57

Wow. Are you really that bored?! What do you expect, cats to all be cooped up in a house all day? Should have kept up the voting button then maybe you could see how ridiculous you sound.

mbosnz · 12/05/2020 18:57

I do worry how many people seem to be fantasising (I hope they're fantasising) about hurting small animals. Isn't that supposed to be something of a rather big red flag when it comes to psychological issues?

August1980 · 12/05/2020 19:00

I love both cats and dogs - although I have only owned a black lab. I go around my garden too picking up cat poop and Fox poop! Have too, otherwise the above mentioned hound will have a good roll in it!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 12/05/2020 19:05

My cat chose me not the other way aroundGrin

DanniArthur · 12/05/2020 19:10

Another huge cat fan here. My rescue boy is treated like another child in my house lol
I do, however agree that people should be taking steps to ensure their pet doesnt massacre the local wildlife. My boy has two bells and a metal tag on his collar for this reason. In regards to keeping the cats out your garden unfortunately that's up to you. There are several deterrents you can use, a quick Google search will show you these. However, I much prefer nieghbours with cats though. My neighbours on both sides have dogs that bark all day making it impossible for my 2 yo to nap in peace 😑

CottonSock · 12/05/2020 19:13

I'm with you op. I have put a mesh lid on tadpoles as local cat obsessed with shitting and prowling in my garden.. cat shit in veg beds that kids dig in, yuk
