Just that really. Broken a bit of a tooth, not in extreme pain, and I know it's emergency only and antibiotics for abscess etc, but it seems it still one of the more risky jobs from the aerosol effect, so could be months? But I really would rather not lose a tooth either. Guess no one knows yet?

I'm in exactly the same position, and have been told you can buy tooth putty from the pharmacy, to apply yourself at home. This should hopefully protect the tooth from further damage until you see your dentist. Might also be advisable to phone and let them know, so that they add you to their waiting list now.
Hope this helps Smile

Nosenseofhumour · 10/05/2020 18:09

@Dieu thank you that's really helpful, will do both tomorrow! Hope you're not sore!

No soreness ... yet! The chip is quite small, but definitely there, as I can feel it with my tongue.
Hope you manage to get it sorted tomorrow! If you have any Corsodyl in the meantime, that should help too.

Dentists should be providing appointments for urgent care, via dental hubs. they aren't supposed to be offering a scale and polish or a standard check up, but teeth causing pain should be within their scope I think. hey are being paid to do this. If they aren't doing so, ring your local CCG's PALS telephone number on a weekday during working hours. CCGs don't do dental commissioning but I think they're more likely to be helpful than ringing NHS England. They should at least be able to find out what the dentists are supposed to be offering.

The dental service only started last week and only deals with emergencies and a broken toothe with little to no pain is not one - I have half a tooth missing at the moment!!! I am resigned to having to have it crowned at some point - It was a very large filling anyway but it is currently still a live tooth

The putty stuff is out of stock in the 5 places i checked and no idea when back in stock - I will be trying them again on monday to see if they can help by providing some

Jupiters · 10/05/2020 19:16

I'm in a similar position (broken tooth... But in pain). The putty stuff doesn't say on as it's an upper caninie tooth, it keeps feeling off. NHS 111 said I need to be seen within 24hrs but as all dentists are closed its basically tough luck. I can't go on like this for months.

Nosenseofhumour · 10/05/2020 20:36

@jupiters that's a shame, at least mine is slightly further back. There's going to be a lot of saveable teeth going to be lost this year

my DH has been having dental issues.

Recurring infection, he was booked to have tooth extracted, that was cancelled.

Then one of his back teeth broke in half. Dentist said 111, he called them, next day they phoned did can you be in X (across London) in the next 1.5 hours. So he went, they pulled the broken tooth.

Infected one still there.

Point here is he did get emergency dental treatment so I'm glad that's got going.

If it gets bad, seems like the service is being put in place now.

Hope you all feel better or get the treatment you need soon.

Heatherjayne1972 · 10/05/2020 20:44

Ha. Believe me every single Dentist dental hygienist Dental nurse Receptionist And other dental staff want to know

We haven’t been given any indication at all from our governing bodies About when we can go back and what we do about social distancing and ppe Plus the aerosols we produce during treatment carry the virus ( all viruses actually)

Currently all dental Treatment is halted as it’s too dangerous for us and you

We know as much as the general public

ExtraOnions · 10/05/2020 20:48

I’ve got a cracked filling that was due to be repaired the week lockdown started .. and DD is halfway through having her braces fitted (bottom fixed on, rings round her molars for the quad-helix - waiting for the rest of the quad helix to be fitted, and her fixed top set) .. I’m worried the alignment will get even worse ..

AnnaMagnani · 10/05/2020 20:49

Have a google. There's a dentist near me that is open with full PPE doing NHS and private.

Plus there are the NHS dental hubs.

See what is out there.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/05/2020 20:50

I've used the tooth putty stuff it's great as a temporary measure

gluteustothemaximus · 10/05/2020 20:52

Half way through 2 root canals before appointments were cancelled. Starting to get pretty painful as I know the decay is getting worse.

Idontbelieveit12 · 10/05/2020 20:54

My sons April appointment has been moved to August

jesslambo88 · 10/05/2020 20:58

I'm a dental nurse and have no idea when we will be back at work...we are closed but still answering the phone from home to patients in pain...we are giving advice over the phone and dentists are prescribing antibiotics if required...we then refer patients who are in a lot of pain/being kept awake at night to a referral centre who will extract teeth...boots do sell kits for recementing crowns etc xxx

Allihearischasemarshallskye · 10/05/2020 20:58

My checkup has been rearranged for next week for myself and kids . I’m in Scotland , they said they’d phone if they had to cancel, but I haven’t had a text or call so I’m assuming I’ve still to go .

You should post your question on this thread. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3894186-I-ve-just-ordered-2kg-yes-2kg-of-sweets-from-Amazon?pg=3

Might help people understand.

UnfinishedSymphon · 10/05/2020 21:05

I went to an nhs dental hub last week in manchester and had a tooth pulled

GabriellaMontez · 10/05/2020 21:08

Its a fucking nightmare as a patient but I've spoken to ours and I feel for the staff too. I can hear the tension in their voices.

Ghostlyglow · 10/05/2020 21:25

I had a check up booked for last week. It's been moved to July

lotusbell · 10/05/2020 21:29

Thanks for this post. I cracked my tooth on a piece of bloody chewing gum 2 weeks ago. Not sure if it was tooth or filling, looks like tooth but it's a big filling anyway. No pain thankfully but I'm being extra careful, didn't know about putty, will ask at my chemist this week.

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/05/2020 21:32

I love my dentist, she's amazing. I was mid-treatment and it's all stopped. I have no idea how much the (costly) work I've already had done is going to be impacted by the pause in treatment: I'd love to know when they'll be able to go back so that I can crack on.

Tiramisuiloveyou · 10/05/2020 21:43

I chipped a bit off a deep crown then an even bigger bit came off it looks hideous (when i smile). I will try and get hold of the putty stuff and see if I can get added the list for when they open no pain but loads of the crown/tooth missing.

Nosenseofhumour · 10/05/2020 22:34

We should have a sub board for all us putty toothed wonders!! Sorry for everyone in pain, and also to all dental workers good luck, hope you can work safely and soon

OP posts:
Torvean · 10/05/2020 23:59

The putty stuff is not great. Id been using it to replace a filling. Tooth still broke.
You can get tooth putty on amazon and most boots chemists stock it if you want to try it.
