Would you eat this chicken?

annie987 · 10/05/2020 07:21

I cooked 6 chicken breasts last night and they came out of the oven at 9.30pm. I left them in the side to cool.
I just got up and I forgot to put them in the fridge!! Do I put them in the fridge now or bin them?
Thanks

Bin

Loubylou9162 · 10/05/2020 07:31

My kitchen is quite cool so I’d pop them in the fridge now and still eat them if they smelt and looked on. Otherwise of your kitchen is warm I probably would bin them

UnfinishedSymphon · 10/05/2020 07:34

It was warm last night so I'd bin

woodhill · 10/05/2020 07:35

Could you make them into another recipe like chicken curry or maybe just bin them just in case

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 10/05/2020 07:35

No, I'd bin them. I was hospitalised as a child with food poisoning though so I am cautious.

EatDessertFirst · 10/05/2020 07:35

Bin them definately. Cool kitchen or not, thats far too long for any food to be out of the fridge.

Apple1029 · 10/05/2020 07:35

Definitely bin. You cant take a risk with that and smelling it wont tell you if theres bacteria or not Hmm

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 10/05/2020 07:36

I wouldn't eat them.

annie987 · 10/05/2020 07:43

Ok thank you - I’ll bin them.

I’d have eaten them

CIT80 · 10/05/2020 07:45

I would have eaten them

neverdoingthatagain100 · 10/05/2020 07:45

Definitely keep! If you've no cats or anything, they'll have cooled down gently and now be able to go in the fridge.

Meruem · 10/05/2020 07:46

Chicken is probably the only thing I’d bin if it had been left out. Most other things I would eat. But I have been ill from dodgy chicken and it wasn’t fun!

Dumbie · 10/05/2020 07:48

I'd have eaten them. Possibly made them into a curry to be on the safe side.
Wouldn't feed them to the kids though

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 10/05/2020 07:53

@Dumbie can I ask why making them into a curry would be safer?

Mangofandangoo · 10/05/2020 07:53

I'm quite shocked that you even had to ask the question. You've obviously never had food poisoning 🤢

SpillTheTeaa · 10/05/2020 07:56

I'd bin. I had food poising from chicken before. Never do I want to experience that again. Thank you KFC.

EatDessertFirst · 10/05/2020 07:58

Make a curry? Smell them? Hmm

Some people really need to improve their basic food hygiene. Would LOVE to know how making a curry would stop the food poisoning! Never heard anything so ridiculous.

vanillandhoney · 10/05/2020 08:02

No - chicken I would bin, especially as it was quite warm overnight.

I've left beef stew or sausages in the oven overnight and reheated it but I wouldn't risk it with chicken that wasn't stored properly - sorry!

PeppaisaBitch · 10/05/2020 08:04

I'd definitely eat it. But I have a strong stomach. Just heat them up properly if you're worried.

Oysterbabe · 10/05/2020 08:04

I'd probably eat them.

Oysterbabe · 10/05/2020 08:05

*I've done stuff like this many a time and never had food poisoning as a result so possibly a bit blasé.

ElectricTonight · 10/05/2020 08:08

I'd eat them

Cheeseismymiddlename · 10/05/2020 08:50

Out of the oven at 9.30 means you could not have put them in your fridge without adversely affecting the safety of your other food for a good few hours.
So they have technically been on the side 5 or 6 hours longer than ideal. Did they have a cover on them ? If covered and still in date and properly stored before cooking I would be inclined to say safe to eat. If you do make a curry make sure the are reheated at a sufficiently high temperature for long enough which you would do with any meat .

newmumwithquestions · 10/05/2020 08:54

I’d happily eat. Have eaten things countless times that have been out to cool longer than ideal and never been ill. Always covered though.

I wouldn’t serve to anyone coming round (not that that’s an issue at the moment!)
