Do men keep women down, because of how powerful women are.

I was talking to a man before lockdown. He said "you have a lot of power, whether you know it or not." He said " women have no idea of the huge amount of power that they have over men. That men want women desperately. And women have power because women create life"

He said that as a man, will look at a woman as she walks past and think " she is so hugely powerful, she creates life, something that I cannot do".

He said, that is precisely why men have been trying to keep women down in many areas of society, so that women will forget how immensely powerful they are. Because women are immensely powerful beings, men want to keep women down, because they are scared of them.

Ever since he said it to me, I have begin to realise how powerful I actually am. That many of us women have just forgotten it.

What do you think?

He sounds like a guy I went to Uni with who after a few joints would speak as though he'd finally revealed the true meaning of life and would wonder in amazement at his own brilliance.

What a creepy thing to say, as if we are important only because of our biological function.

I prefer to be valued as a human, not cherished for my reproductive organs.

HarrietTheShy · 09/05/2020 20:01

The way I've heard it is: "women have no idea the power they have between their legs".

Samtsirch · 09/05/2020 20:05

He sounds like a total “ mentalist “
Women don’t need men to tell them how strong they are.
What an absolute arse.

RomeoLikedCapuletGirls · 09/05/2020 20:07

I think that confuses a trophy, i.e. a representation or symbol of power, with actual power.

This ^^

I’ve met a fair few men who believe women have power because they can choose to have sex whenever they want. But they’re only talking about attractive young abled women. The rest of us are so invisible we’re not even included in the equation.

2ndStar · 09/05/2020 20:12

The only things that men require a women for are gestating children (all men) and a female sex partner (heterosexual men). Two things that men cannot do without women and it really pisses some of them off.

It’s not power, but some men might see it as such because they can’t have either without a woman’s agreement, unless they go as far as rape or coercive reproduction.

PilatesBunny · 09/05/2020 20:15

As opposed to men? Confused, even old & ugly men have sex whenever they want. What a hypocrite.

MayFayner · 09/05/2020 20:21

You can’t “keep someone down” if they’re more powerful than you. Think logically OP.

Let’s use our collective power to close the gender pay gap. Oh no wait we’ve been trying to do that for ages and... we haven’t been able yet.

Thingsdogetbetter · 09/05/2020 20:24

He thinks he's woke. Sprouting bollox to impress and validate his own ego. He'll go home and expect dinner on the table, but that's ok cos he's woke. It's the new age "but I'm a nice guy" shite. Barf!

Scruffyoak · 09/05/2020 20:26

Yeah. Abrahamic religions were all part of just writing womens importance out of history.

The problem with having 'power' from sex and childbearing is that it only gives women power over the small circle of her family or through men.

What if women want true power? Political power, wealth, world domination? Sex and baby making don't give us real power.

So what they mean is women have power over men they meet , not power in the world.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 09/05/2020 21:26

Your man is talking out his arse.

If women had power we wouldn't be getting murdered at the rate of 2 a day. And 1 in 10 of us wouldn't be getting raped. And 1 in 4 wouldn't suffer violence in the home.

He is mistaking stupid men who think with their dicks when it comes to attractive women, with women having power. He only means the young beautiful and perky women, not your every day middle aged plump woman. The reason he doesn't consider the latter is because women he doesn't fancy are entirely invisible to him.

corythatwas · 09/05/2020 21:30

Yup, we've all met them.

And their shitty attitude towards women is always to do with something about the women that just makes them behave that way, not about their own decision to act like arseholes.

RUSU92 · 09/05/2020 21:53

No I completely agree. I think they hate how vulnerable they are to their mothers and how vulnerable they are to sex and sexual rejection, and this fuels their desire to control and belittle women.

Yes, this. I think the guy was probably telling the truth, but putting a lovely positive spin on it.

The reality for more of these men than not, is that they feel shame that they desperately want to be mummied and to have sex and that this takes over their rational mind more often than they would like, so by abusing and destroying women they can get back some of the power they lose.

But its not that women actually HAVE this power, but that men perceive that if he is weak or needy in any way then it MUST be because women . See the Bible, Adam & Eve etc.

RUSU92 · 09/05/2020 22:00

The simple take on why men have always kept women down is because men are physically more powerful. Simples! If Your average woman could easily overpower your average man then ‘women’ would be the men.

I read a book called The Power, about how girls and women evolved the ability to use electricity to shock men. A great twist on the power of the sexes!

RUSU92 · 09/05/2020 22:06

Even if you go on online forums, I see similiar posts written by men. I saw one last week. It was titled "Are women aware of how much power they have over men?"

Because what he actually meant was that men go weak in the presence of a sexually attractive woman. But rather than admit his weakness, or that its only young conventionally attractive women who have power over men, they shift it onto women.

Its a bit like the deadbeat dads who complain that women always get custody of the kids in a divorce when trying to cite how women have it better than men. Whilst conveniently forgetting that this has not always been the case, men used to literally own their offspring and if a woman dared to divorce him she might never see her children again. Conveniently ignoring the fact that the woman probably did the majority of childcare and arranged her working life around her DCs to enable his to continue unimpeded, most likely taking a drop in salary or losing out on opportunities. But hey, once they get divorced, she should suddenly be happy to go 50/50.

When I hear married men clamouring for 50/50 childcare, demanding to do 50% of the housework and making sure they only have a 50% chance of getting a promotion or prestigious account over a female colleague, then I'll take their moans about women's power more seriously.

Chociefish · 09/05/2020 22:14

A man I know once said to me while walking out the door "of course you should know you have all the power" How's that I replied? "you're sat on it" he said. 🤔😂😂

Fairyliz · 09/05/2020 22:59

I think he just wanted to create life with you.

AtTheFootOfTheHill · 10/05/2020 06:46

@CorianderLord another good point. Being too conventionally attractive does not always help a woman. If she wants a boyfriend, yeh, helpful no doubt. The men who come out with this dumb shit cant imagine a higher aspiration

heartsonacake · 10/05/2020 08:02

It’s not a case of “men are powerful” or “women are powerful”. It’s individual. Not every woman is powerful just like not every man is.

Everyone has it inside themselves to be powerful, it’s just some don’t work for it and some just don’t care to be so, but if someone wants to be powerful they absolutely can be by working for it.

P999 · 10/05/2020 16:12

Note: seeing it as a power game?

borntohula · 10/05/2020 16:28

He sounds weird. Women can and have achieved many amazing things but creating life requires a man too unfortunately

NameChangeNugget · 10/05/2020 16:43

He didn't want to have sex with me Biscuit
