To get tested for Covid

I am a teacher and was in work on Monday with keyworker’s children (first time since lockdown).
Yesterday (Thursday) I had a tickly sort of cough, like I couldn’t clear my throat/chest. It continues for an hour or two sporadically. However it did not feel like the covid cough I’ve heated about, it seemed too mild.
Today (Friday) I have a sore throat, but I do have a history of bacterial tonsillitis flare ups when stressed.
I do not have a fever. I don’t feel unwell other than what’s stated above.
I am in the higher risk category (obese).

AIBU to get tested soon or should I wait until if/when I get more sick?

I’d also appreciate hearing other’s experiences of how quickly the symptoms appeared.

We have been instructed (in the last week) by our organisation that we have to get tested before going to work if we have any of a list of symptoms, even without a fever. The list includes both a 'new' cough and sore throat.

The organisation arranges the testing.

What does your workplace say? Are they not doing similar?

The incubation period is 7-14 days so it wouldn’t be showing up on Thursday if you were only exposed to it on Monday.

The thing is, OP, unless you have been shielding, you could have got it any time (shopping, touching something whilst out and about etc) - not necessarily from the child. So you won't know how long it has been incubating.

Don't go by guesswork. Workplaces have policies and procedures for this - they need to be followed.

Please. This is nonsense. I can take UP TO 14 days, 5 - 6 is the most common but symptoms can arise anything from 1 - 14 days.

It's perfectly possible for someone to be infected on monday and develop symptoms on the following thursday.

I've got these figures from the WHO.

Thanks all. If I’ve got it and contracted it before Monday I do worry about the kids I was with in school.
@ChristmasFluff thanks, I’ll contact HR.
