To wish I still had a commute?!

I'm very lucky that I can work from home, I know that. But it also means my home is now my workplace and there's no gap between finishing work and getting home. I used to have an hour of cycling to "let go" of my day and now the instant I've closed my laptop, dd is "yey, hug me, pick me up, dance, sing, run around". I love her so much but, argh!

YANBU at all! I completely agree and am really missing mine, as sad as that sounds...

The 10 minute walk to the station either end and then 45 mins of me time reading/catching up on messages/watching something - priceless.

JollyHostess · 07/05/2020 16:35

I don't miss mine at all, the only thing I miss is the nice Pret coffee I buy when I get there 😂
Dreading going back to that crowded , sweaty, stressy commute twice a day.

SerenDippitty · 07/05/2020 16:40

I took voluntary early retirement last year and although I don’t miss work I do actually miss the commute! Once lockdown is over I’m seriously thinking of one day getting up as though going to work, driving to my old workplace, parking up outside and having a look for a while, then turning round and coming home! Or going shopping g or something.

I will refer to this thread on all those threads complaining about husbands not taking over with DC (instead having long shits, showers, lying on the sofa on their phone) when they get in from work when the inevitable cries of “his commute isn’t downtime for him!” begin from other posters. Grin

God yes but then I'm livid today. DH thinks that because I am wfh I am now responsible for all childcare and chores. He's a sahd btw so basically he's doing fuck all.

Literally the second I stop work I'm faced with them all at full volume and if I ask for some quiet time I'm met with downcast faces and pass ag comments. I miss the time to decompress

feistymumma · 07/05/2020 16:53

I certainly don't and because of all the working from home my employer has now decided that we will all now be homeworkers. It proved our jobs could be done from home so they have cancelled our office lease effective July. I am ecstatic

OoooImBlindedByTheLight · 07/05/2020 17:21

My commute was genuinely my favourite part of the day.
I’d drink my coffee and listen to my music for an hour each way.

It’s literally the only peace I ever get and I miss it 😢

LaurieFairyCake · 07/05/2020 17:21

I miss Pret the most

Plus going to Fortnums and getting something tasty from the cake shop downstairs

SatsumasRock · 07/05/2020 17:26

I miss my commute too. An hour each way of reading/watching TV that my husband would refuse to watch/staring idlely out the window.

I don't miss spending £900 a month on train fares though.

Thank you all!

I was always so happy to see dd when I collected her from nursery (before lockdown) after cycling home from work and it's taken me a while to figure out what was different 🙄

I'm a key worker so she could still go to nursery but dh is furloughed so dd doesn't need to go to nursery, so we've all been at home together for an unusually long time!

What’s his logic behind this? Confused

How does you working from home change his role as SAHD during your working hours? I dont understand.
