When are shops likely to be open again?

I know, it's been asked a million times, but I've bought something for my 18 month old son that I've been waiting for ages to come in stock. It arrived and is clearly a return as it has drawing on it with crayon, a crack and scratches. Took it back to the store today and they're not accepting returns. Only accepting returns if you bought it in that store (so it's ok for some people to return but not others). It's only a table and chairs for him to eat at but it cost me a fair bit, I don't have money to buy another one and am not sure when I will be able to return. Having one of those weeks where everything seems to be going to shit!

I would ho back to the shop you bought it from and demand a replacement.
What shop is it out of interest? They can't refuse to take back a faulty product.

Ellisandra · 07/05/2020 15:16

I don’t understand - you took it back to the store, but not the store you bought it from? Confused

Have you actually spoken to the store (or online?) that you bought it from?

For an item that was a damaged return, you should be able to show a photo, and have them just refund or send a replacement. They’re unlikely to want it back.

LittleRa · 07/05/2020 15:21

I read it as she bought it online delivery but took it back to a physical store, eg Argos

ShambalaHambala · 07/05/2020 15:22

It's Argos. I bought it online and went to one of their stores in the supermarket. They offered a refund to the lady in front of me so I thought great, they're taking returns, but because I bought it online and not in the store, they won't exchange it or refund me. So I've got this thing that cost a fair bit of money, money I could use for something else, or buy another one, and can't use it because it's faulty.

Yes I assumed it was bought online, but didn’t understand the question of when would the shops be open again. I suppose with the extra info, perhaps full Argos stores accept online returns, but not concession stores within Sainsbury’s.

OP, why not just keep the transaction online, email a photo and complaint and ask for a refund or replacement?

Sonichu · 07/05/2020 15:25

Contact Argos customer services?

Northernsoullover · 07/05/2020 15:26

Argos are well known for selling on used returns.

vanillandhoney · 07/05/2020 15:27

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to refuse to accept the return of a faulty item. I would contact Head Office, or try twitter.

ShambalaHambala · 07/05/2020 15:27

I'm on hold to them now as it could be weeks before they reopen. I would understand if I just didn't want it, but it has someone's initials written on it in crayon... 😅

I've just checked on twitter. Haven't used it yet to contact them as don't really use it but it's entertaining reading. Looks like a lot of people have the same issue.

Looks like there are people who have bought faulty bicycles, games consoles, toys, iPads etc for their kids and can't get refunds on them

OP posts:
Ellisandra · 07/05/2020 15:35

You don’t need them to re-open, you just need your money back. Stay firm and insist on a refund immediately. If you really can’t get one, did you pay by credit card? If so, tell them a retailer has sent you a faulty item and is refusing to refund.

ShambalaHambala · 07/05/2020 15:45

Still on hold. Might give up

Argos are twats for returns I avoid if possible but I know with the lockdown they are open at Sainsbury's so I reluctantly bought some weights there this week as only place I could get in stock .

Small delivery items can be returned big items they collect .

A bit lighthearted but if you get a rubbish response email joe Lycett www.channel4.com/4viewers/takepart/got-your-back
They shouldn't be reselling things that are damaged they are not checking properly .

ShambalaHambala · 07/05/2020 15:55

They should really compensate for the time that people are without their product and their money. Obviously this would never happen but I'm so frustrated. Just wanted a table for him to do his arts and crafts at and have his food

I haven't looked up the legal position but i 's not unusual for shops to say you have to do a return by the method you bought the item from in the first place

I'm not at all surprised that an Argos concession in a supermarket doesn't have the necessary system to refund an online item.

Of course it's frustrating but sadly it's one of those live and learn experiences to read the returns policy before you buy. I've not bought things before when I read it was online returns only, not worth the hassle imo.

ShambalaHambala · 07/05/2020 16:13

They do have the necessary system to refund it. The man in the shop told me he's been told by management to refuse.

Where I work (not argos) if you buy it online, you can't return to stores, you have to do the returns process online, print a free postage label out and send it back (large items are collected by courier) then we refund once its received. Do they have a similar process?

ShambalaHambala · 07/05/2020 17:13

They do, but aren't accepting them via post until we are out of lockdown.

OP posts:
Ellisandra · 07/05/2020 18:25

So have you emailed or tweeted them, or not?

ShambalaHambala · 07/05/2020 20:11

I've DMd their help team
