Just that really.

Stuck on what to get DS. He can cruise around, he loves cardboard boxes and socks 🙈. We want to get him a few bits to have but don't know what to get!

One thing not mentioned so far, height growth chart so we can measure him every year on his birthday to start our own little tradition

yatapina · 07/05/2020 17:23

DS got a Little Tikes cosy coupe with a detachable parent handle from Ebay.

DD got a Little Tikes climbing cube with slide from Facebook.

Both were used until they were about 4/5.

Bounce and spin zebra 5 years later she still has it in her room and won’t let me get rid of it but she lets her little sister use it!

OddshoesOddsocks · 07/05/2020 17:30

Mine both got a smart trike for their first birthdays, dd1 got loads of use from hers but dd2 not so much, she was more interested in her sisters scooter!

My youngest got that red moose rocker thing from Ikea, do they still even exist? Feels like forever since I've been to Ikea 😂

MolotovMocktail · 07/05/2020 18:12

A wooden activity cube with wires and beads on top. It was a massive hit for a couple of years.

REdReDRE · 07/05/2020 19:40

An Ikea wooden toy kitchen

gingganggooleywotsit · 07/05/2020 20:09

a mini indoor ball pit and a pedal car for the garden

Scarlettpixie · 07/05/2020 20:24

A rocking lion

Andpopwenttheweasle · 07/05/2020 20:51

A treasure basket filled with 'real' things like wooden spoons, measuring spoons, body brush, metal ramekins etc and a big bag of mega blocks!

YinMnBlue · 07/05/2020 20:53

One of those wooden push along trucks with bricks in.

mogtheexcellent · 07/05/2020 21:10

We sectioned off a small part of the garden for her to grow things. Shes very proud of it!

Watching with interest as my daughter's first birthday is coming up. So far (collected when I saw bargains throughout the year) we've got her a bubble machine, a Winnie the Pooh book collection, and a little wooden push along tiger with a shape sorter in it (£6.99 second hand!). I'm not going to go overboard but want to get a few more touchy books (lift the flap, that's not my... etc) and interested in the Grimms rainbow. I'll leave the plastic tat to the family as know it will come!

Historyofeverything1 · 07/05/2020 21:30

A big cardboard box in it was a few small gifts (a book, small toy and some clothes) and a balloon. He sat and played in the box with the balloon all day.
I'd say first birthdays could get necessities and a token gift. I tend to buy what they needed when they needed it not because it's a celebration.
They usually open everything, feel overwhelmed and then play with their old toys that they are comfortable with.

Ballpits

7dayslater · 07/05/2020 21:50

We got him a Scuttlebug. He uses it everyday (he's almost 2). He also had a pull-along caterpillar, musical toy, book set, some clothes & a baby doll.

The Scuttlebug was only £20 ish and has proven to be really sturdy, especially given that DS is so brutal with it. Grin

I put the money I would have spent on toys in their bank accounts and let my family buy toys.
