Do they know something we don't, or are they jumping the gun?

There probably just trying to anticipate likely demand, work out how they can accommodate it, will they need to buy more equipment etc, generally just sensible business planning.

Lovestonap · 07/05/2020 09:03

Where? Where? Can I go!?

incognitomum · 07/05/2020 09:06

I cut hair but have only done family and service user's plus one work friend who I have to be near anyway. Am thinking of doing it as a sideline once lockdown is over just for trims ect?

I agree she's probably just planning stock ect?

incognitomum · 07/05/2020 09:07

Oh I was a hairstylist and colourist for eons before present job. It isn't just a hobby Grin

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2020 09:09

My wardrobe company are doing in home installations from the 25th too. Made me wonder.

I think possibly though it’s just companies realising they need to start again.

Fluffybutter · 07/05/2020 09:09

Oh I’d love a trim , my ends are terrible !

BendingSpoons · 07/05/2020 09:11

They are being hopeful and planning for best case. My work (in a completely different industry) were starting to make plans for mainly working from home for the next year!

magimedi · 07/05/2020 09:15

incognito I think you'd get a lot of custom when lockdown is over if you're happy to go to peoples' houses - lots will want a hair cut but won't feel like going into a salon.

Burntmybiscuits · 07/05/2020 09:16

I'd love a trim and colour! My salon is my haven! But I was wondering whether it seems too good to be true for now... Confused

Like most hairdressers are desperate to get back to work and they seem to be the industry that gets commented on a lot. End of May sounds optimistic to me but I guess they'd be foolish not to start planning just in case.

tupperwaretowers · 07/05/2020 09:21

A local hairdresser has opened up for all bookings, this diary of bookings will just be shunted along weekly until she actually opens.

PrinnyPree · 07/05/2020 09:25

She probably doesn't have alot of choice with the prospect of furloughs being wound down. The government is forcing the hand of some people who may not have the funds to ride it out. X

lowlandLucky · 07/05/2020 09:25

My hairdresser hands me a list of my appointmentss for the following year in December. I have just found my diary and i have an appointment mid June Yipee !

Doidontimmm · 07/05/2020 09:32

I work in the industry and there has been no announcement so she is just being optimistic! There will be strict guidelines in place to start off. Ireland are mid July. I anticipate we are similar.

thecatsthecats · 07/05/2020 09:42

There's been no announcement, but you'd hope that although being distant isn't possible, being limited, safe and sanitary shouldn't be too difficult for beauty parlours.

Neither of my hairdressers have more than two clients in at once anyway, seated 2m apart for a better experience. No waiting, magazines and appointment only would seem sensible.

I want to get my ears pierced, and they obviously have to do that hygienically in the first place, so I'm hoping that will be permitted.

ShennaIsAPrawnCracker · 07/05/2020 09:47

My hairdresser has sent out a text this morning stating they are closed for the foreseeable. I wasn't surprised after reading the paper and what they are reporting the plans for reducing restrictions are. Ordering box dye today!

BadBear · 07/05/2020 09:49

My dentist had booked me in for the beginning of May, he then pushed it back to the 22nd of May for a cosmetic procedure. They are doing to manage the volume of appointments and create a queue.

I'm guessing she's doing the same, create some sort of order?

EmeraldShamrock · 07/05/2020 09:57

The Salons are under pressure to open. They're apparently the last to open in Ireland looking like July.
It isn't fair as many will be working from home pushing the black market while hard working salon owners go under.
I think as long as masks are worn by staff and clients, the space between seating is good and regular deep cleaning.
If everyone took personal responsibility it would help, unfortunately many people are idiots believing they are above the rules.
A local lady tested positive so went food shopping to stock up, no gloves no mask.

LonginesPrime · 07/05/2020 10:04

The can't do business without bookings as they won't have any hair to cut.

I've had texts from mine too making plans to reopen as they need to keep clients engaged (not least as it's been long enough that people are obviously resorting to home colouring, etc and they might lose those clients' business altogether - I'd probably feel too awkward going back to the same hairdresser for cuts if I've dumped their colouring services in favour of bottle dye..).

Worse case scenario, they book people in and then can't open - which is manageable as they were obviously in the exact same position at the start of lockdown. And if they can open, they'll have a full diary of bookings.

cologne4711 · 07/05/2020 10:12

There are 400,000 gowns from Turkey that are no good for NHS staff.

Do hairdressers need medical grade PPE though, or could they make use of them and would it allow them to open?

Popc0rn · 07/05/2020 10:23

@cologne4711

Wearing a long sleeved gown won't protect the hairdresser or customer from potentially passing covid on to each other from breathing or talking to each other in a close proximity.

I'm a nurse and tbh I'm not particularly bothered if I don't have a gown, I can wash my forearms with soap. The virus won't seep through the skin. But mask and face shield is none negotiatiable.

MT2017 · 07/05/2020 10:28

My next appt was this Saturday Confused

However, my hair is looking better than usual as I'm not washing it anywhere near as much (was daily) and so I assume I'm not washing the colour out as quickly!

lurker101 · 07/05/2020 10:28

Send me their details 😍

Chokablock · 07/05/2020 10:56

I know a few people who have text / messaged their hairdresser personally on FB and booked in for a home appointment.

The premises had to close but there is no actual law stopping them from working.

My SIL is an ex-hairdresser and did mine a couple of weeks ago but if she wasn't I'd be trying to find a home appointment (provided you're not shielding of course).

Jupiters · 07/05/2020 12:27

My beauty therapist is accepting booking from the 18th! Think it is a bit optimistic but I guess we'll see.
