AIBU to not like the Tik Tok videos made by “key workers”?

I’ve worked for the emergency services myself so understand the gallows humour and the need to let off steam when working in stressful environments. However, I do find the videos of medical staff dancing around the wards and through the corridors quite off putting. I know people who have lost loved ones to covid19. If a member of my family was fighting for breath on a ward where the staff are busy making tik tok videos I don’t think it would be unreasonable of me to have concerns about their attitude towards the patients care. I like to imagine that the staff making these videos are working on wards that have become quiet due to the lockdown. But if this is true, I can’t help but feel they’re letting the side down and their colleagues working with covid19 patients. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be allowed to make videos etc, but surely it should be during downtime, away from the wards and not posted so publicly.

You don't know that it's not in their downtown. & It takes minutes to make a videoclip.

Dont be so ridicolous. Or is it goady, quite a lot of anti NHS threads springing up at the moment. Makes you wonder why eh?

I wouldn't even question staff attitude to patient care, videos or no videos.

TikTok is shite .
Why did we need another app for attention seekers?

I like it. My son has been in and out of hospital all his life. Suddenly all routine appointments have been can and he doesn't really understand why. It's nice for him to see the videos and know that the nurses he knows are safe, well and haven't just disappeared off the face of the earth.

Ffs, every time we go to work we risk bringing a potentially deadly virus home to our loved ones. If we have a spare 15 mins then yes of course we can lighten the mood and have some fun. I wont go into details of the nature of the area where I work but suffice to say myself and my colleagues deal with tragic situations and emotional stress on a daily basis - not just since covid started - and the vast majority of people have absolutely no idea of how hard it is. So keep your judgemental opinions to yourselvesHmm

I manage a care home and if we did that CQC would be right up our arses

If they're not breaching confidentiality, and dont include patients/residents or have an effect on their care then I fail to see why the CQC would be up anyones arse. The CQC didnt investigate when I reported neglect at a care home I did agency work at last year I doubt they're bothered about tiktoks that only show staff dancing.

Our management team tried to get us to do one at the end of our shift last week to boost morale. Everyone refused and just went home. They're not for me but each to their own, as long as care isnt compromised.

I agree, I think those videos are awful, and hugely insensitive.

While many in the NHS are struggling, many are not because so much routine stuff has been cancelled and so they have less to do than usual. Of course these people deserve downtime and can do what they want on their breaks, but considering they seem to need to wear full PPE while making these videos, at the same time as complaining they don’t have enough, it really doesn’t come across well to many. But God forbid anyone say anything against the nhs right now, despite the fact that as a whole, the organisation is massively letting people down.

I can only speak for my colleagues but some friends of mine made a tiktok video - it was done in the corridor between the room they get dressed into their PPE and the ICU prior to starting their shift when they were on their way onto the unit for handover. They are paediatric nurses who were redeployed to look after adult patients so were pretty stressed so anything which meant they came onto the unit at the start of their shifts in a positive mood has to help.

What is Tiktok and how does it differ from Facebook, Instagram etc?

bloodyhellsbellsx · 07/05/2020 10:57

This again 🙄
If you don’t like them don’t watch, I think it’s nice to see the human side of the NHS

I fail to see why the CQC would be up anyones arse Because some inspectors arr being awful during this time. I'm part of many registered managers meetings and some inspectors in a couple of particular areas have reported to the home's contracts managers that the RM is "not compliant" because they were ten minutes late for a phone call due to dealing with resident's needs. So I can imagine their reactions to tiktoks.

The CQC didnt investigate when I reported neglect at a care home I did agency work at last year Did you raise it with safeguarding too? One positive about CQC is ime they always investigate abuse/work with safeguarding etc.
