49yrs and mild heart attack

Changename5000 · 06/05/2020 09:42

Yesterday I was sat on the sofa having a cup of tea, chatting to my partner.

I started having pains in my chest just behind my breast bone, pain down my left arm, and across my back.

Thought it would pass but soon realised it wasn't, partner gave me some aspirin and after 10mins an ambulance was called.

Paramedic arrived and did their stuff, within 40mins I was in hospital.

I had suffered a mild heart attack they believe. The NHS is bloody amazing and I have been well looked after.

No visitors allowed, so spent most of yesterday in shock and crying.

I am a key worker, so should be working normally, however I'm going to need a bit of recovery time, but will a heart condition put me in the "at risk/vulnerable" section!?

I'm so scared, I knew after finding my happy ever after, something would come along to mess it up

You will be carefully "managed " from now on. Much better this way than having a massive heart attck in 5 years with no warning, get well soon

Michelleoftheresistance · 06/05/2020 09:46

Please don't panic Flowers A friend of mine had a really nasty heart attack aged only 43, she's since started campaigning for better recognition of women (and younger people) experiencing heart attack symptoms. She's got nothing but praise for the input and help she had to recover and has never had another problem, she's active and healthy. You're in the right place doing the right thing. Take care of yourself. Brew

Greenkit · 06/05/2020 09:49

Wo6e 43 is young, like most i guessed it was an old person problem

I don't drink or smoke, but I'm carrying a bit of extra weight. No heart issues in my family, suppose it has to start somewhere 🤷‍♀️

BlueSuffragette · 06/05/2020 09:50

Wow OP that was one hell of a nasty shock for you. At least you have had a warning and can now be helped to reduce further risk. Some people don't get a second chance so do everything that you can to prolong your happy ever after. Take care xFlowers

Callimanco · 06/05/2020 09:56

My mum had a heart attack in her mid 60s. Like you never smoked, drank little, a bit overweight but not significantly so.
She said the mental consequences took a long time to manage. The fear that any exercise would set it off again. It's bound to - that is normal. They do keep an eye on you after.

She's 80 now, regularly monitored, never had any further problems.

Throckmorton · 06/05/2020 10:14

Big hugs. You got treated, they are looking after you, you survived, and they will be monitoring you carefully from now on. You have not lost your happy every after - this is just a blip. A bloody unpleasant and shocking blip, but a blip. Take good care of yourself and rest up for as long as they tell you to. The mental shock of this sort of thing can be as hard to deal with as the actual physical event, as it makes us face our fragility. You will be OK though. A former colleague of mine had a heart attack quite young - he took it as a sign to cut back on stress, change jobs and generally re-assess. He seemed pretty happy with the overall outcome! Flowers

Greenkit · 06/05/2020 10:30

Thank you for the reassurance

My partner has said we need to get fit and healthy, lose weight, but yes I'm scared that if I start something it will all kick off again.

Greenkit · 06/05/2020 10:31

I left my very unhappy marriage Sept 18, that reduced my stress, I came off anti depressants and started dating my new partner.

New start, new life and now this

TheWickerWoman · 06/05/2020 10:35

Oh how scary for you, I hope you’re feeling better now.

This is something that really frightens me, there’s so much out there I’m probably more likely to get but I have this fear of a heart attack, every little twinge I second guess. I do need to be healthier.

Thighmageddon · 06/05/2020 10:37

Op you seem to have had a name change fail.

Elouera · 06/05/2020 10:41

Glad it was discovered and you are on the mend. Are you female? Women often get different pains and symptoms from a heart attack- not the 'usual' belt around the chest feeling and pain down the arms the adverts would make you think- these are more classic symptoms in men!

Concentrate on your recovery 1st and don't worry about work right now! Have they booked you for cardiac rehab classes? Not sure if they are being run at the moment though, but they usually include dietary advice, lifestyle classes and physio/exercise classes.

My father died at 47 of a heart attack- didn't drink, smoke and not overweight. Embrace having another chance. Flowers

ExclamationPerfume · 06/05/2020 10:43

My DH had one at 54. He doesn't drink or smoke he eats healthily. After many tests they found he has a hereditary condition.

Take care of yourself Flowers

tillyteatowel · 06/05/2020 10:46

Could you have a chat to British Heart Foundation for some support?

Glad you’re ok Flowers

Changename5000 · 06/05/2020 10:53

@Thighmageddon thankyou, it's ok though

Its very early days yet and they are still investigating. Going to be here for a few days.

Yes female

Throckmorton · 06/05/2020 11:02

Ask the doctors what they advise regarding exercise and weight loss - they'll be able to give you good advice on that. Try not to worry though - if you're in hospital, although very boring and not where you want to be, they'll take good care of you.

Changename5000 · 06/05/2020 13:15

I am going up for a dye test in min, possibly a stent if needed.

Then they will know more and what to do with me

KnickersandGnomes · 06/05/2020 15:08

What a shock but great that you acted quickly and are now getting the required treatment/s.

My Dad had a massive heart attack in his late forties, arrested just as the ambulance crew got him in to the hospital etc... and has just celebrated his 90th birthday!

Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery.

Changename5000 · 06/05/2020 16:47

Wow that was a scary procedure, cried all the way through, sedation didn't kick in until they had finished as I was so stressed out.

Slept for ages

Seems that is all clear as well

MRI scan next ...

It is good to hear peoples happy stories x

OP posts:
GREATAUNT1 · 06/05/2020 16:58

Hope all goes well for you OP. Yes you’ll be on the vulnerable list now with the virus.

MissConductUS · 06/05/2020 16:59

Mild MI's are not uncommon for your age. Not needing the stent is very good news. Let us know how the imaging study turns out.

GREATAUNT1 · 06/05/2020 17:00

I sing my way through procedures OP, it’s very calming for me but probably drives everyone mad. Take care Flowers

Changename5000 · 07/05/2020 08:13

Sorry, fell asleep for most of the day and none of the night

No issues shown, so that's good

MRI scan today

I just want to get home

OP posts:
Throckmorton · 07/05/2020 17:07

I hope the MRI went well and that you are home soon

KnickersandGnomes · 07/05/2020 18:06

Just wanted to send you more good wishes, fingers crossed that you are back home soon Flowers
