To Loathe the Phrase "Reaching Out"?

Maybe this is just a thing in the states.
Instead of saying, "I'm contacting you because...", it's "I am reaching out because...," etc. It just seems kind of pitiful. Mental images of someone actually extending their arms pleadingly. Confused

What jargon sets your teeth on edge?

I hate each and every expression mentioned upthread.

And it's a really intrusive hatred, so that I end up not actually listening to the fuckwit who's doing the "reaching out".

100% agree with you, all this bollocks can fuck right off to where it came from. With all due respects we don't need all this shite.

Yes, it's like the emails that come round saying "tis the gifting season". They get deleted immediately.

You gift land, you give presents (or gifts). Or you donate things.

The Germans must be bemused by all our "gifting" as Gift is poison in German Grin

Can I add “deep dive “ 🤬🤬🤬

I hate reaching out, awesome, my bad, cool, a bunch of, and all the rest of that imported insincerity.

But the worst of the lot is ‘talking around’ instead of about.

This is commonly heard in the community sector where they have developed a specific way of speaking in order to appear like winners in the ‘down with the people’ Olympics but in reality has the effect of making them appear smug and superior.

Refuted is one which is almost never used correctly, it's misused to mean denied.

Another one "parenting" as a verb. Used by people who think being a parent is an art form.

Nope. Your kids turn out well (or not) in spite of your "parenting". Not because of it.
