To be this superstitious?

Me and DH won’t be TTC until nearer the end of this year after things begin returning to normal and we finish a few jobs around our house! (We were supposed to get the bathroom done last week which has been cancelled. And the kitchen next month which is still uncertain Sad)

I am extremely broody but also weirdly superstitious.

I’ve seen multiple accounts on social media that make/sell baby clothes and accessories even things for a nursery! But, I get a bad feeling that if I look at these accounts or follow them it’ll jinx me and DH and we’ll struggle while TTC?

Please forgive me as now I’ve typed that and read it back I realise I am being stupid and me following baby accounts will not determine our fertility! Has anyone else been in this boat?

I’d love to follow some of these accounts so when the time does come around next year they’re on hand and I don’t forget the names or anything! As they sell lovely baby stuff that I’d love to buy for our future child.

Take a picture/screenshot/ note of the account names and don’t follow them could be a potential workaround if you are really superstitious, maybe no?

@LouiseTrees I actually really like this idea thank you! I have screenshots of advice for TTC, supplements to take and I just hide them so maybe I could to that with these!

The very idea that anyones fertility or the health of their child (which is the other stupid superstition) is affected by buying baby stuff is ridiculous and pretty offensive tbh.

Be logical, buy stuff if you want, don't buy stuff yet if you dont want, but your fertility wont be determined by buying a baby grow early.

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult I didn’t mean to be offensive apologies! Of course after reading my thought out loud I’ve realised I’m being extremely stupid!

Those kind of superstitions or obsessive behaviours are illogical and not healthy, OP. Don’t allow them to take hold.

Instagram is not going to affect the conception of a child.

LouiseTrees · 05/05/2020 18:43

I think she knows it won’t affect conception but, from experience of many years of infertility , if she is following them and then struggles then it will make it so much harder. I personally didn’t actually follow any but I would be looking up ivf etc online and then the baby ads would be all over Facebook. Planning and pinning not so bad.

Winterwoollies · 05/05/2020 20:10

@LouiseTrees I know she knows that. But I didn't want her to allow those kinds of thoughts into her head if she can help it because they can allow in more negative thoughts and behaviours if they become habitual and things don't go as planned.

When I was expecting my first DD I would not put her cot up or put her new clothes in her room or even have her pram in the house. Everything was just in boxes or bags in the spare room. Partly because I worried I would jinx things and not bring her home.
So I do understand how you feel. It's irrational but nonetheless a real feeling.

Just to add, I did bring home a healthy and happy baby.
