hello, I realise this isn't AIBU but posting here for traffic.
my 10 month old baby has got severe eczema covering his face and arms (also some on legs and torso but not as severe). it started to develop when he was about 5 months old and has got gradually worse. Nothing is helping and we are desperate! we have tried hydrocortisone, euvomate, and fusidic acid for infected patches. he has dermol 600 in the bath and we've also tried oat baths. we moisturise religiously with epaderm ointment and aveeno. we are waiting for him to be allergy tested but none of this is running at the moment so likely to be a while before he can be referred. in the mean time he has never had dairy, eggs, nuts or fish. he is breastfed and I have small amounts of all of these in my diet although I did give up dairy for around 6 weeks to see if that made a difference - it didn't. please, if anyone has any experience of this, what worked?
thanks

Hello, I’m so sorry to hear about your baby. My DD had terrible eczema for many years, particularly on her legs and body. After trying many creams from the doctor and over the counter, the only thing that we found to work, and very quickly, was cold pressed rape seed oil. She had cool baths, took Piriton just before bed (as she was very itchy at night) and we covered her skin with it using cotton wool pads. After suffering for over a year with her entire legs itching until they bled, it cleared up within a week. She still uses some each evening after bathing, but has now been symptom free for several years. We have never seen rape seed oil mentioned for eczema anywhere, but from DD experience it is great.

I forgot to mention, that after eliminating various foods/ washing powders etc, we found that my DD’s eczema is triggered by oranges, even in the tiniest amounts. I am brand new to messaging, but wanted to share our experience in case it helped, as it so distressing for DC and you.

so today I have ordered some moogoo products to try, a probiotic and some violets laundry detergent. hoping that some of this will help! when I hear back from the doctor I will push for a stronger steroid too. we've started a food diary so will try and see if I can find anything which might be a trigger. poor boy just cant sleep and is tearing at his face tonight. I really hope something improves for him soon. thanks again to everyone for all your suggestions - if we have no improvements with the changes we are making now then will consult this thread for more ideas

If all else fails, you can try a bleach bath, as described here uwap.uwa.edu.au/collections/susan-prescott/products/the-allergy-epidemic-a-mystery-of-modern-life by www.drsusanprescott.com/about-susan.html. Please note, Dr Prescott is not some quack but highly qualified in the field.

It sounds terribly drastic but, on reading, she uses it as a last resort to provide a clean base from which to build strategies and treatments.

We saw a dermatologist for DS eczema who said to put eumovate on any flare ups for 3-5 days and then moisturise with Vaseline only

He’s also supposed to be having an allergy test when the hospital restarts normal procedures

Most creams we tried (including Aveeno) did nothing, or (in the case of Eucerin) made things worse.

Mustela Stelatopia turned out to be the one cream which keeps my son's skin under control. It was like a miracle really, as within 48 hours his skin looked almost normal and he was about 90% less itchy. I'd still like to get to the bottom of why he has eczema, but I'll take the massive improvement as a victory!

I hope things improve for your little guy.

Look up the reviews for Kokoso baby organic coconut oil. It seemed to work for a lot of families with the same problem. Obviously everyone is different, but apparently even some doctors are recommending it. Might be worth a look. All the best.
