I would like to file a complaint for service provided during my labour. I was ignored, dilation checks not done, sent home which then resulted in a traumatising experience.

This is months after and I am only just starting to be able to deal with the after effects.

Can you ask for a post labour review I believe there are specialist midwives who will sit and do this with you

Ladybud · 05/05/2020 12:08

Thanks @Grumpbum123, I could ask about that, although I'm okay about it all now.

I've been thinking about this too, I wouldn't ever be able to bring myself to sue them but I definitely want to raise something so they're at least aware and hopefully it doesn't happen to anyone else...

Exactly @avocadont. I think it's important we do as it seems to be a common occurrence. Hopefully they will look into it.

Yes it may stop this happening to someone else.

Like @Grumpbum123 said, ask for a review or to see your records. I wouldn’t necessarily go straight in with a complaint as your version and theirs may be very different. You may find that when you sit down and go through it with someone, there may be valid reasons why you received the treatment you did. Sometimes in the heightened state you would of been in, you may not have got all the facts correct. If you do go for a review I’d take the person who was with you at the time (birthing partner) as they will be a huge help going through what happened. If the hospital are at fault, then yes, you should proceed with a formal complaint to stop it happening to someone else. With lockdown this is not the best time to do this, but why not draft a letter and send when restrictions lift.
