School Fees Rebate

GingerGill · 04/05/2020 18:51

Not looking for an argument around any of this - just posting for info.

Any one being offered a rebate on summer term fees? If it’s relevant we are in Scotland. Curious as to what other schools are offering for the senior school?

There's a big thread on this already. I've been given a third off full boarding fees but from what I recall of the previous thread, most have been offered much less

HandfulOfFlowers · 04/05/2020 19:06

There are loads of threads on this. The summary is people are being offered a range from nothing to 40%.

PaquitaVariation · 04/05/2020 19:08

Nope, nothing at all from either school. Although we haven’t actually had a bill from one school yet!

Cismyfatarse1 · 04/05/2020 19:16

20% (Scotland)

myself2020 · 04/05/2020 19:17

Nothing for ours, but they run a full timetable with online small group lessons, loads of feedback and support.
they do offer generous support for economic results of the crisis, but no reduction across the board.
they are not an expensive school either, so i‘m fine with it

opticaldelusion · 04/05/2020 19:17

Send your kids to state school and stop moaning.

myself2020 · 04/05/2020 19:19

Who‘s moaning?
count yourself lucky if you have a decent state school close, and stop judging

OublietteBravo · 04/05/2020 19:23

20% (DD’s school) and 25% (DS’s school). Plus no annual increase for 2020/21 school fees (so they stay the same as the full fees for 2019/20).

GingerGill · 04/05/2020 19:38

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the info and apologies if this is repetitive! Will try to find the other threads.

@opticaldelusion - a special thanks to you for your helpful, intelligent and concise comment! Can’t recall moaning at any point in my op and appreciate how lucky I, and my family, am.

Full fees here but dd is on a government Dance & Drama Award so we only pay an amount set by the government based on family income.

She has an almost full timetable 9am-3/4pm instead of 9am-6pm including assembly, tutor time and 1:1 singing lesson.

BathshebaAndGabriel · 04/05/2020 19:47

50% off London day school.

My husband is on the board of governors of his old boarding school (Ireland) and they still trying to figure what to do!
Will boarding schools even be allowed? How do you socially isolate in a dorm?!

Comefromaway · 04/05/2020 19:54

You can’t. But would you be classed as a household?

Chloecoconut · 04/05/2020 19:57

Son is at independent school for 6th form. Day pupils have 30% reduction and boarders 50% (England).

listsandbudgets · 04/05/2020 19:57

25% from one school and 20% from the other. Both have given instructions to contact them for further help if necessary

WonderWebbs · 04/05/2020 20:00

10% reduction for day pupils for Summer and Winter term. Full boarders are being charged as day pupils. All academic lessons delivered live online. Extras such as LAMDA, music lessons etc have all been

dancinfeet · 04/05/2020 20:06

Comefromaway have you had any info about the Dada award being reduced at all? My daughter is also on one (full Dada), she has been told that the maintenance payment will be reduced this term due to the college being shut. This is despite her having a full college timetable similar to your daughter and the fees are still being covered in full by the Dada, but the maintenance payment only just covers her rent anyway. The rent on her accommodation still has to be paid regardless, so I am going to have to top up her rent for May - July, as well as pay the full rent in Aug for a flat that she cannot live in (not the landlord's fault). A nightmare for me, as I am self employed and have no money until mid-june. She isn't currently working due to the full college timetable, and also because has asthma (before someone says she should go get a job!) and her usual weekend job is a non-essential business, and is therefore closed.

Comefromaway · 04/05/2020 20:15

We don’t get maintenance. I think you have to be on under £20k for that. I’m trying to think she could ask any of her friends but i don’t think she knows that level of info about their finances. Thats not fair, degree students are still getting the same maintenance and I know that for various reasons a couple of students at dd’s College have had to stay in halls so still have rent and living costs.

Dd’s Landlord refunded her rent for this term. She lived with a host family and one of them is recently recovered from cancer plus their own dd returned home so it suited them for the students not to be there. She’s going into private halls next year and apparently they haven’t charged students this term.

Comefromaway · 04/05/2020 20:19

Just seen it’s income under £30k, not £20.

are they saying she’ll get the live at home instead of away from home rate? That’s really not fair if so especially as rent still has to be paid.

dancinfeet · 04/05/2020 21:27

comefromaway We are still unsure exactly what they intend to give her this term as the college haven't forward it to her yet expecting it may be tomorrow or wed.Obviously if we didn't have to pay for the rent on the flat I would expect a reduced amount, as she can stay at home for free, I don't mind supporting her, but she is staying in this flat with the same group this year, its a private student accommodation landlord and he has said that rent must be paid even though they aren't there, which I do understand from his perspective. Just makes things difficult for me as a single parent, as it is going to be a real struggle depending on how much the shortfall is.
