To be fuming at a group of nurses at my local hospital

I’m 35 weeks pregnant and went to local hospital for blood tests. They’ve moved the maternity bloods so you can go through a separate entrance. When I arrived I got a bit lost but a nice porter helped me find where to go, it wasn’t through the correct route but I still avoided the main hospital.

As I was leaving I didn’t know where to go as I hadn’t come through the new entrance so I followed the signs for the exit, got lost again due to all the changes and saw a group of nurses so asked them how I get out. I followed the exact route they told me only to be met by a security guard who told me I was in the “purple zone” meaning I was in the Covid zone and I should’ve stayed in the green zone. He wished me luck!

What the hell do I do now?!?

I can’t believe I’ve stayed home for 8 weeks for a group of nurses to be the people to put me at risk.

Totally ott. To think a group of nurses would willingly send you there. Are you actually serious????

Also why did you stay home for 8 weeks.??? Did you stay in the purple zone in the vicinity of a covid patient for a sustained period of time?

BarkandCheese · 04/05/2020 10:39

One of three things happened

  1. You got the directions wrong
  2. The nurses accidentally sent you in the wrong direction
  3. The nurses deliberately sent you in the wrong direction

The chances of it being 3 is vanishingly small, so it was either 1 or 2 in which case it was a genuine mistake, so you have no reason to be fuming. That coupled with the chances of you catching the virus from a few minutes in that area being minuscule means do an Elsa and let it go.

AppleKatie · 04/05/2020 10:39

It’s not the nurses fault you got upset at a flippant/rude comment made by a security guard is it?

SeasonFinale · 04/05/2020 10:40

Not sure where I got 11 from but what constitutes a "group" then and why slag off nurses anyway?

negomi90 · 04/05/2020 10:41

They probably forgot or didn't think about the purple zone.
Or you misunderstood the directions. It wasn't malicious.
You'll be fine
(Our post natal ward is opposite a Covid ward. That corridor is red with green around it, mums and babies aren't getting it from the corridor).

bloodyhellsbellsx · 04/05/2020 10:42

Us nurses are awful terrible people who enjoying giving strangers wrong directions and laughing about it. They’re probably still cackling about it now whilst ignoring patients to plan further disruption to unsuspecting peoples lives Grin

Servers · 04/05/2020 10:43

I can see why you are anxious about it and annoyed, I was very cautious when I was pregnant let alone during all of this, especially when you have been staying in for 8 weeks. I highly doubt that they would have purposefully given you the wrong directions though, and it was the security guard and not them who almost made a joke out of it. The chances are low if you weren't in contact with anyone and weren't licking the walls; probably worth mentioning to the midwife though as maybe estates can do a better job at signage, at the local hospital here it is very, very clearly marked.

Dingdongthewitchisbread · 04/05/2020 10:43

@SeasonFinale I’m not slagging off nurses generally am I, I was upset with a particular group that I felt had put me at potential risk when you’d think they’re the people in a hospital who would keep you safe.

I’ve accepted I’ve overreacted and I was being unreasonable so perhaps we can drop the pile on now!!

Dialdownthedrama · 04/05/2020 10:44

The security guard clearly knows as little as you do about risk. You're fine, don't stress out and don't 'fume'.

MintyChapstick · 04/05/2020 10:44

I think the security guard may have been pulling your leg and you’ve overreacted.

but someone who works at the hospital saying let’s hope you haven’t caught it and wishing you good luck is quite shocking!

That’s not what you said when you first mentioned the security guard. You simply said he wished you luck. Funny, I would have thought the first thing that most people would mention is the “let’s hope you haven’t caught it” comment. 🤔

Blondieg · 04/05/2020 10:49

Woah, everyone, calm yourselves down. She was clearly panicked when she wrote her post. This site is meant to be supportive.
Congratulations on your pregnancy, please dont worry, I'm sure you are going to be absolutely fine x

WorriedNHSer · 04/05/2020 10:50

There is no way you could accidentally walk into a covid zone unless you are blind/can’t read English. There are signs on any door into such zones as well as PPE donning areas next to them.

Randomness12 · 04/05/2020 10:50

Hi OP I understand the anxiety around this but by way of assurance - Purple zones are not covid zones. Red zones or hot zones are. You are at precisely zero risk, the security guard got it wrong. He may well have been well intentioned but he has made a mistake. All hospitals are following the red, Amber, green zone process as directed.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 04/05/2020 10:51

You'd already managed to not read instructions and get lost twice so it's more likely you got confused for a third time than the nurses deliberately sent you to a covid area.

81Byerley · 04/05/2020 10:54

I think people should cut the OP a bit of slack. It's scary going out just now, and it's even scarier when you are pregnant and will do anything to protect yourself and your baby. @Dingdongthewitchisbread It sounds as if the security guard's remark was a bit of a throw away thing. Remember he is used to being there, and has got a bit more relaxed about it. Go back to your isolating, and try to tell yourself that you didn't come into contact with anyone, and you didn't touch anything. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

RoryGilmoree · 04/05/2020 10:55

@Dingdongthewitchisbread who said that? Someone on the thread or the security guard?

mrpumblechook · 04/05/2020 10:55

Many hospitals have "purple zones" but it is nothing to do with COVID. Anyway, as long as you didn't stand close to anyone and you washed your hands after leaving the hospital you will be absolutely fine.

RoryGilmoree · 04/05/2020 10:55

Ah sorry it was in your OP. Don't read too much into it.

Longdistance · 04/05/2020 10:56

Well from your op, you sound like you have form for getting lost. I don’t think I’d want to be in a car with you map reading 😂

TiptopJ · 04/05/2020 10:57

Whether the OP is unreasonable or not to blame the nurses shes clearly anxious as would most people who had wondered onto a covid ward let alone someone who is 35 pregnant and all some people can do is laugh at her. By all means point out how the risk is minimal but dont mock someone who is clearly upset. Disgusting.

PinkiOcelot · 04/05/2020 10:57

Totally off topic, but you still have to pay for parking?

Drgo · 04/05/2020 11:00

You were probably already in the covid zone and they directed you to the nearest exit?
Either way, I wouldn’t worry and I highly doubt the nurses deliberately wanted you to be at risk.

imsooverthisdrama · 04/05/2020 11:01

I mean this nicely but do you honestly think the nurses have gone oh let's send this pregnant lady to the covid area on purpose.? No
They have sent you the wrong way accidentally or you misread the directions.
The security guard wishing you luck was ridiculous unless you bumped into anyone the risk is small as you say you just walked through.
