To think there are an increasing number of people on selling sites who expect you to just give stuff away

When I list stuff I list it for what I consider to be a fair price. Isn't this what most people do?

This is on fb. The reasonable people discuss it on the page. The annoying people will send you a pm asking for you to do a 'deal'

Example, I was selling some baby stuff - 20 baby grows, 20 vests, brand new snow suit with tags, hats, cardigans. Most of it I never put on my baby because she was too big. The pictures show it looks new. And it was all from Boden, white company, Next and Jojo Maman Bebe - I was asking £25 for all and this woman messaged me expecting to pay £15!

Then I had listed some things for £6 each and this woman wanted me to send her one item for £6 including postage. Which after postage would have left me with £1.80 recouped for an item I paid £12 for which is still in EUC.

Don't get me wrong, not everyone is like this but some people just want you to give them stuff for free because they haven't got much money as if they're the only ones!

Title should say 'just give stuff away'

You're lucky you got offered anything for the clothes. Our experience is that people just won't pay for them

Moomin8 · 03/05/2020 17:49

Really? How does that work?

The world is full of users \cheeky fuckers\desperate people whatever you do and whoever you are (from the guys messaging complete strangers with a sob story to ask if they can come round for sex to the people who contact bloggers asking them to spend days doing unpaid work to promote them )

I think the internet increases the speed of interaction so it can just seem more intense?

Concentrate on the decent people and ignore the users . Maybe have a separate selling account with a "couple name on it" as often people take the piss less if it's a man's account but expect women to be more giving ?.Also keep communication \advertising quite brief and don't get into long dialogues or open ended communication via PM

Moomin8 · 03/05/2020 17:49

So they just don't give you the money?

There are some lovely people too don't get me wrong.

But it's just this entitled attitude that some people have where they get funny if you won't do what they want.

It's for this reason I stopped selling on eBay years ago.

I had someone come round once to collect a cat scratching post that I'd listed for £5. They turned up with a £10 note saying they'd forgotten to pop to the high street to get some change on the way (I live 0.3 miles from nearest cash point/shop). They looked mighty shocked when I assured them I could give them £5 change! Some people are just chancers!!
