This has really tickled me!

Coronavirus lockdown breakers: 'We got a dirty look and I called it to an end' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52501417

'My mum was in touch with an underground network of hairdressers' Grin

Aibu to be imagining a hairdresser acting like a drug dealer? come in quickly so no one can see

Although the last person on this article is fucking hilarious they wrote to the police to complain they got pulled over for driving to see a meteor shower Grin

Weren’t they complaining because the police refused to believe it was their daily exercise?

Because clearly people drive out to the countryside for night time runs all the time Grin

NegativeNellyy · 03/05/2020 13:11

@MinorArcana yes! What a prat! As a family we always drive 5 miles at midnight to have our daily exercise Grin

Wow, I imagine joggers nipple caused by hanging binoculars round your neck on your nightly jog must be excruciatingly painful.

So glad he thought it was worth writing and making an official complaint about the officers who stopped them, I bet that really gave the local Nick a good laugh at a time when they are extra stressed.

cologne4711 · 03/05/2020 13:26

I thought the meteor shower guy had a point actually. There isn't a night curfew and you might want to run at night Grin

I wasn't surprised that particular story was in the south-west - the Devon & Cornwall police have been particularly active, just not as high profile as eg Derbyshire with their drones.

viques · 03/05/2020 13:35

Well he would have had a point about going out for a run, except he wasn't going out for a run............... And I bet they had packed a thermos and sandwiches to sustain them while lying on rugs watching a meteor shower. So double whammy, non exercising picnickers.

Grin

I want a secret agent hairdresser though. Knock three times and ask for Blonde, James Blonde...........

Methtones · 03/05/2020 13:39

A whole family pile in the car and its exercise?!

ChikiTIKI · 03/05/2020 13:41

I laughed at this too.
Also thought it was interesting that they already have a response from the police to their letter!

MitziK · 03/05/2020 13:47

Bet that meteor knob was from Plymouth and heading up to Dartmoor.

Not a place to be 'exercising' in the pitch black at any time, never mind when there's good reason to stay at home.

SmudgeButt · 03/05/2020 13:48

Deluded individuals! Then again - I am a key worker, working from home to ensure my office based colleagues have enough room to social distance. I'd suggested a couple of weeks back that as I was ordering plants for myself I could some for others to save them having to pay deliver and to risk someone stealing the plants off their doorstep as the would be delivered while they were at work. A colleague has just stopped by mine to pick up her plants and we chatted from a distance. We did get some looks from people out doing actual exercise (so not driving to watch the night sky!). So it's hard to know the actual facts some times. Her driving to mine was a shorter journey than me driving in to the office today to leave a large box of soggy pots on her desk.

Opinions?

Standupthisisnotateaparty · 03/05/2020 13:58

If I had read about the meteor guy a few days ago I would have thought pulling him over is ridiculous. He’s going to the middle of nowhere late at night won’t come into contact with people. However my brother is a cop and he explained that unnecessary car journeys cause accidents. People are driving quicker at stupider at the moment and they are dealing with an increase of car accidents. He said lots of flipped cars which is generally speeding. Also on a random location if you have an accident fall etc. This stretches the services and means nurses and doctors are having to treat you and not available for the corona patients. So it’s not only about you going somewhere where other people are.

Carolduckingbaskin · 03/05/2020 14:01

“Underground network of hairdressers” is a brilliant description. Am imagining smuggling bottles of bleach and a black market in upmarket shampoo.

VenusTiger · 03/05/2020 14:08

@Standupthisisnotateaparty also the "townies" driving in the dark down fast country roads they are not used to and of which are unlit - I learned to drive in the sticks and cars in hedges was a common occurence at night in the summer, and you just knew they didn't live locally.
I myself don't see a problem with it - mental health is so important and meteor showers are fascinating - puts a lot into perspective, not that I'm a star gazer, but I think it's important for us to practice a bit of meditation if we need it once in a while, especially now, a bit of reflection in a locked car in the middle of the night isn't harming anyone.

VenusTiger · 03/05/2020 14:10

For the record, I haven't left the house in 4 weeks straight - none of us have - we've got a garden and that's serving us well as regards exercise.

Greenkit · 03/05/2020 14:14

I'm a key worker, nothing has changed for me, except shoppingvrakes 10 times longer.

If I need to get out to keep sane then I will

MitziK · 03/05/2020 14:59

@VenusTiger and sheep. Lots of bastarding sheep.

FIL rolled DP's first car into a ditch getting distracted by a meteor whilst going over Dartmoor (DP had only recently passed his test and wasn't comfortable driving there at night - especially as it was so common to find cars off the road each Saturday morning) - FIL didn't see the three kamikaze sheep until it was too late.

Nothing 'Townie' about either of them. Knew the moors really well. Still ended up upside down with 3 dead animals.

On the times we've crossed the moors at night, the number of walkers who loom into view, no light or reflective clothing, no torches, just strolling down the middle of the road, as though they're on a conveniently wide bit of pavement (complete with fucking buggies and small children), I've wondered just how the human race has made it so far. Especially when they're wearing shorts and flipflops.
