How come she has got a higher monthly 'furlough' income than me when i earned more?

Hello,
We both started our jobs at similar time, She started about 3 weeks after me.
We were both discussing our furlough payments and she is getting about £150 a month more than me even though i earned a £1000 more than her on our P60s for last tax year.
Any ideas? I'm broke so need as much money as i can

Is she a good friend? Presumably so if you’re freely discussing this kind of detail

Ask to see her pay slip. If there is an error - it will be immediately apparent

Is the company paying you or the agency?

nonetcurtains · 02/05/2020 11:52

If you're both on variable hours contracts, she may have worked more hours than you over the past three months.
Work out average worked hours per month (don't include annual leave taken) over the last three months prior to furlough date, x 80% = gross monthly furlough pay. Deduct PAYE & NI (tax code may vary), adjust for any difference in additions e.g. SSP, deductions e.g. student loan, adjustments e.g. corrections, & pension = net 'pick-up' pay.

There's loads of reasons why pay may vary, there's no way any of us can know.

There are so many reasons, each depending on individual circumstances. You will both be getting what you are entitled to, some employers will top up some staff.

Dinomom52 · 02/05/2020 12:04

A relative is furloughed & said his was based on his last proper mont. pay. He’d done some overtime that month, so he thought he’d come out about a normal month rather than 80% Iyswim.
Could the other party have done more hours in your last month in?

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 02/05/2020 12:14

As you seem very open with each other, why don’t you each contact HR and ask to see the calculation. You can then compare between yourselves and go back to HR with any queries.

I work for N agency and I’m getting (weekly) either
A) my income from last year divided by 52
Or
B) my income from the same month in the previous year if it’s higher than the amount I would have been getting for A). But for me divided again from the monthly amount in to weeks as I get paid weekly,

So mine can vary quite significantly.

QuillBill · 02/05/2020 12:18

*an agency

MamaGee09 · 02/05/2020 12:19

My furlough is based on this month last year and what I earned then or if I have worked for less than a year my furlough is based on my average wage over however months I’ve worked there.

So mine is based on this month last year,

KaptenKrusty · 02/05/2020 13:19

Is Your furlough pay not based on the what you were earning the last few months rather than what you earned for the whole year?

My payslip says I get exactly 80% of my usual monthly pay.

Spiderysummer · 02/05/2020 13:28

My furlough pay was based on what I earned in February this year. As a supply teacher, that can vary an awful lot year to year. I would have preferred my annual pay to be the basis of the calculation but had no choice. It all depends how they calculated your pay.

Comefromaway · 02/05/2020 13:35

It depends if you are on a regular salary in which case it’s your monthly salary as of 28th Feb (or 19th March).

If you are hourly paid or your income varies then it’s an average of the 19-20 tax year or the equivalent month the previous year, whichever is higher.
