In light of all the bad press Care Homes are getting at the moment, AIBU to share this amazing success with you all? Approx 3 weeks ago we received the dreaded call from FIL's Care Home to advise us that they had a confirmed Covid case. One of the residents had briefly been in hospital and had unfortunately brought it back home with them (prior to this the home had already been closed to visitors for several weeks to protect the residents). We immediately feared the worst and prepared for further bad news. However, the home immediately implemented strict distancing/isolation measures, ensuring residents stayed in their rooms at all times, with all the staff wearing appropriate PPE to protect themselves and the residents. They ensured that family members were updated constantly and arranged regular Skype calls between residents and family members, even though their work load was massively increased. They did their best to ensure that the residents all still had activities to do and weren't sat alone all day. After the required 14 day period they have been able to relax procedures back to normal again, all residents have been allowed back out of their rooms and, remarkably, not one other person (resident or staff member) has contracted Covid. What an achievement! Just wanted to share this for those who may be worried about their own relatives in similar situations, and show that despite what you see in the press, Care Homes are not lost causes when it comes to dealing with this.
