Am I being scammed??

Got myself in a sticky situation and not sure what to do?

Sold a dress on Depop yesterday. I listed it over a year ago and wasn’t expecting anyone to buy it, especially not now.

A buyer asked A LOT of questions and haggled the price down. After a week of messages, she bought the dress. I purchased the postage label straight away and posted it this morning to the address on her Depop account/PayPal

The thing is, she messaged me at midnight to say that she has moved and gave me another address. If I saw the message I would have refunded her and told her to update her PayPal address and repurchase. But I didn’t, so the parcel is on the way to her PayPal address.

What can I do to rectify this? Have a feeling this is going to end up with me losing the money lol

I don't know if it's necessarily a scam; after I moved I certainly did this and forgot my PayPal mailing address hadn't been changed! I had at least one parcel sent to the wrong place and it was my own fault.

Fingers crossed it can be straightened out.

Contact PayPal.

If you have proof of postage to the address registered on her PayPal you'll be fine. It's in PayPal terms and conditions that in order to be covered by their buyer protection you must have goods you've bought posted to your paypal address. If she hasn't change it that's her fault. If there is a dispute, paypal will side with you. You've posted it and I assume have proof of delivery?

DollyPomPoms · 01/05/2020 14:32

It is her own fault. PayPal will back you up. If you hadn’t of sent it to the address on PayPal you wouldn’t be covered.

BlueJava · 01/05/2020 14:41

Make sure you take a pic of the postage receipt and keep it. I'd report to Paypal just in case.

browzingss · 01/05/2020 14:51

I sent it with tracking to her PayPal address. I don’t think I would have been covered had I sent it to her 2nd address - that’s why I’m wondering if this might be a scam as don’t think sellers are covered if they post to another address.

Could she say that doesn’t recognise the signature, as she doesn’t live there anymore, and get a refund? So annoying

Not sure what to message her in response. Any ideas? Feel like she might be angry that I missed her message and sent it anyway

I couldn’t get the parcel back from the post office could I?

In theory Paypal should back you up on this one; they expect you to post to the address registered with them and that's what you've done

I just hope you don't get a muppet who reads the buyer's comment that it was "sent to the wrong address" and doesn't have the brain power to look beyond that

No one was in so parcel taken to sorting office. The buyer hasn’t collected the item from the sorting office just yet, and I don’t think they’ll be able to as they don’t have the red slip.

If time elapses and they haven’t collected it, do I have to issue a refund?

Not sure if the parcel will be returned to me as I left my address off the label. I did buy the shipping online with Royal Mail so they have my details but not sure if that’s enough so I might lose the item and the money!
