to think a lot of people are going to look for any excuse not to go back into work when restrictions start to be lifted?

Already seeing it on a few threads this morning. I think a lot of people have quite enjoyed being off work and will try their best not to rush back. Or am I being sceptical?

OP posts:
ZaZathecat · 01/05/2020 11:42

I think the main reason people are worried about being called back into work is due to fear of travelling on crowded public transport while the virus is still prevalent.

EmeraldShamrock · 01/05/2020 11:44

People are scared.

missyB1 · 01/05/2020 11:46

So you think a lot of people are too lazy to work? Hmm

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 01/05/2020 11:46

Of course they are! People are already starting to looking for reasons going by threads on here.

Fact is a business needs to make money and the majority of people don’t work efficiently from home. No money for the business no job for you

Those furloughed well the government are not going to pay your wage forever so it’s back to work. It’s nice getting paid to do fuck all I’m sure but that has to end

You are not sceptical OP

Lowhum · 01/05/2020 11:47

Some of us will not have childcare provision with schools / nurseries closed and grandparents shielding.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 01/05/2020 11:47

I think the main reason people would not want to rush back to work would be concern that, if they go back too soon, it won't be safe. But I guess most people won't have a choice and it'll be up to their employer.

MarshaBradyo · 01/05/2020 11:48

The prospect of putting everyone back on public transport isn’t a good one.

Hopefully those that can wfh can and will continue.

JonesyCat40 · 01/05/2020 11:49

You will have some who have enjoyed the time off and aren’t looking forward to the treadmill again.
But there’s also peoples genuine concern over exposure during commuting and measures in offices not being sufficient.
I’ve not particularly enjoyed working from home and miss my colleagues. But if people can work from home, they should work from home.
How are people expected to be back at the 9-5 without the schools being back.

Elpresidente29 · 01/05/2020 11:55

Me thinks a lot of people are happy with the free money being handed out and Are treating this as a “holiday” not a prison sentence, which is what it’s like for the most of us who had lives before this happened!

PhilCornwall1 · 01/05/2020 11:55

Of course they are! People are already starting to looking for reasons going by threads on here.

I've seen some comments where people have said they will refuse to go into the office until there is a vaccine. If that's the stance some people are going to take, I can see some being "restructured" out of their jobs.

Thighmageddon · 01/05/2020 11:56

God I'm going to be up and ready by midnight ,with a full face of makeup and a nice blouse, the day I'm allowed to go back.

Am I the only one who's fed up, over eaten, not worn anything other than stretchy waisted garments, not worn makeup or brushed hair in a stylish way?

I can't wait to return.

TheChippendenSpook · 01/05/2020 11:57

I can't wait to go back to work.

Ozgirl75 · 01/05/2020 11:58

I reckon this is totally true. Our business employs people and a few couldn’t wait to be out of the door.
However, one of them who has gone over and above for the business will be getting an unexpected bonus in July’s pay packet and has also guaranteed herself a decent pay rise next year.

Peppafrig · 01/05/2020 11:59

I think people are worried what will happen if their work opens before school goes back and all the childcare providers too. Such as breakfast and after school club .

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 01/05/2020 12:00

I don't want to go back because to be brutally honest I can skive more at home Grin

RaskolnikovsGarret · 01/05/2020 12:00

I am wfh full time, but am desperate to go back to the office. I could do so now, but we have been asked to only do this if unavoidable. I don’t want to clog up public transport/endanger anyone, so am not going in. But I’m so so keen to go back. My team is half and half - some like being at home all the time, others hate it. Even though we are all actually working hard at home. If I couldn’t wfh I’d go mad.

Peppafrig · 01/05/2020 12:00

Forgot to say apart from childcare I'm mostly worried about public transport rather than work. I just can't see how we can all stay 2 m away on a packed out bus.

Moomin12345 · 01/05/2020 12:01

Most office jobs can easily be done from home, but clearly making employees cram into sweaty overcrowded trains and waste hours on commuting every week is more fun.

geekone · 01/05/2020 12:01

@P1nkHeartLovesCake it’s just not true that most people are less efficient working from home it’s the old “if I can’t see you you must be skiving” trope. Many businesses have shown that they are as productive if not more so if their staff can do their job with no restrictions from home. I find going into work more distraction

justtb · 01/05/2020 12:01

I'm scared enough to go to the supermarket let alone work.. they're going to change my job role for when I go back (in about 10 days) but the anxiety is still very much there

Sillysop92 · 01/05/2020 12:03

I can’t wait to return to work properly, I love my job. I’ve been in work for a few hours on a rota basis in the office and it was so good to have a change of scene. And to talk to someone face to face at a socially distanced 2m, that wasn’t related to me!

midgebabe · 01/05/2020 12:03

I'd like some evidence for the claim that the majority of people don't work efficiently from home

All our senior management team is sending constant messages to remind people to take coffee and lunch breaks , reminding us we would normally breathe and chat in the office and offering advice on how to avoid burnout

MarshaBradyo · 01/05/2020 12:04

You can probably get some SD when at work, but if getting there means going back to public transport as it was then the R0 isn’t going to stay where CMO etc say they want it.

Umnoway · 01/05/2020 12:05

People are frightened which is understandable really. Many jobs are doable from home so those who have been WFH are questioning why it’s worth the risk, makes sense to me.

I feel for retail staff who can’t WFH and will also be exposed to lots of different people every time they go to work. People are also scared of using public transport again if that’s their only way to get to work, again totally understandable and reasonable.

SilverOtter · 01/05/2020 12:06

My husband has openly admitted he doesn't want to go back because he likes doing nothing.

On days I'm not working I usually drag him out to walk the dog with the children, which he has said he "hates" because he'd rather stay on the sofa!

He is getting paid a full salary to sit on his butt all day every dayAngry
