Hi Everyone,

I'm 39 and will be 40 by the time my baby is born (will be my 3rd). The dating scan at 13+4 showed an NT of 2.1mm and the blood test revealed a 1 in 1890 chance of Downs and 1 in 10,000 for Edward's Plateau. Anyone else 39/40? What were your results? Although low risk, I can't help worrying and just want to hear from others please x

I’ve had three children and my risk was 1 in 1500 of Downs Syndrome (aged 28), 1 in 79 (aged 31) and 1 in 100,000 (aged 34). I had an amnio with the higher risk pregnancy and it came back negative. But that was a long time ago and I believe they can find out a much more accurate risk from a blood test now.

JJXM · 28/04/2020 20:40

You might want to move this to the pregnancy boards though.

Those are good results OP

Careful with this stuff online it is a minefield that usually just ends up making you panic and stress unnecessarily

Have a look on the Fetal Medicine Centre website (Harley Street London)
The professor who oversees the private clinic also works for the nhs and is the person who invented the nuchal test.

They are experts and have lots of information on there. If you end up going down the route of invasive tests they are the people to do it, they have the lowest risk of MC (usually quoted as 1/100.... the Drs there told me it’s more like 1/1000 or lower as they are so experienced at it.

Good luck with your pregnancy

HullabalooToo · 28/04/2020 21:04

Im just 43 and due 2nd baby in a couple of weeks.
It was too late for the nuchal but the nhs boood test came back 1 in 5. Harmony was less that 1 in 10, 000.

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 29/04/2020 07:38

If you can afford it, Harmony testing may put your mind at ease. I was 35 with DS 2 and had Harmony testing. Worth every penny for the peace of mind.

Dreamingofprosecco · 29/04/2020 07:56

At 38 my risk came back 1 in 800 x

Thank you everyone for your kind replies and fir sharing your personal stories. I guess my results are quite good and I should be grateful. I think I can see a clear nasal bone above the tip but am no expert. I'm sure the technician would have noted it if anything wrong visually.

HullabalooToo - Best of luck for your second baby. What a shocking contrast in results!!! Glad it was ok for you

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to comment. It has really helped x

Never had the NT as DS wasn’t in the right place. My Combined Test (DS) result was 1 in 20,000. (I was 39).

iano · 30/04/2020 19:26

1:1825 at 33 and 1:5600 for DS2 at 36.
DS1 had a short nasal bone which affects the likelihood.
We were told all measurements are based on Caucasian babies so nasal bone measurements can be off for people of African and Chinese decent. Just thought I'd mention that as you made reference to the nasal bone.

Waveysnail · 30/04/2020 20:00

If your very worried have an amniocentisis.

Winterwoollies · 30/04/2020 21:42

I’m mid 30s and my risk came back as 1 in 3 for Downs. I had a NIPT and then an amniocentesis and it came back totally normal. So considering my risk was high and it was clear, I’d say you’re in a good place to not worry.

Noidlet · 30/04/2020 22:06

Pregnant at 29. 1 in 364 chance of Down's syndrome, normal nuchal measurement. So officially low risk. No other soft markers on ultrasound, heart issues etc. Our son recieved a birth diagnosis of Down's Syndrome.

He is amazing and we love him to pieces. However, to be blunt: if you do not want the possibility of having a baby with Down's Syndrome then pay for the NIPT to confirm.

Hearing other people's numbers as reference will not help you. Probability doesn't work that way. I've heard of someone having a baby with Down's syndrome with a 1:15000 chance.

PierceHawthornesSexDungeon · 30/04/2020 22:11

I had a 1/250 risk of Downs when pregnant with my DC in my 30s. Had the amnio which was fine. And DC doesn't have any issues.
