Online delivery from Sainsbury, huge amount of plastic

Anyone know if its possble to get online delivery from Sainsbury's without all the plasic bags? This is the first time I have used online shopping, only did so as Im living with my vulnerable 88 year old mother. It arrived in 13 bags, a large order but some bags only had 2 items in them! I've seen some older threads saying can get items decanted into boxes at door step by driver but not sure how this works now with the virus. And can never work out how to communicate with sainsburys and get a response. Any ideas?

They are using bags to make it easier and quicker to deliver items and drop them to you. I'm sure they'll go back to the bag free deliveries when the pandemic is over but for now I think it's the easiest way for everyone.

Nope. It's to save people handling the goods. It will go back to non bag deliveries once the pandemic is over.

You can put the bags into the food bank collection boxes as they are always looking for bags for life

Online deliveries have all reverted to using bags to minimise contamination issues due to COVID. Not ideal but a temporary need to tackle the more immediate issue.

I’m putting my bags aside to wait out their “quarantine period” and then will be recycling them.

Not ideal but needs must.

Ah food bank is a great idea! Will be reaching out to mine.

Sainsbury's recently went bagless but have had to revise that during the current pandemic.

I can understand why, its easier and quicker for the drivers - they are flat out right now and the safest option for them. I had a delivery this morning and he put all the bags on the doorstep, knocked and left.

It's slightly annoying as yes I now have a ton of bags but next time I'm in store I'll pop them in their bag recycling hub.

All the supermarkets usually recycle plastic bags - you give them back to the driver with the next order. They're not doing this at the moment, but I'm sure the scheme will return once the crisis is over. Or check if you can recycle them in your area.

As annoying as it is everyone above is right. It’s so you can quickly empty the baskets with minimal contact.
