..to want an aisle layout of my local supermarket?

This should be so easy for the stores to produce.
They must have the info to hand.

My local Tesco have introduced a one way system which works very well, but it would be brilliant to be able to write your shopping list in a better lane order.
I have a reasonable grasp of my local shop so know that it's veg > meat > dairy > ambient but I never can remember where the butter is.

Google found me this image which is what I would like, but with more detail than just Ambient for 6 aisles.

Next time I go, I am going to take a photo of all the aisle banners and hopefully post it on my local Facebook page

I couldn't cope with one way, I don't know what I want to buy until I see what is looking good in meat and fish, then I have to get the ingredients to go with it. Now more than ever things are out of stock so thinking on your feet is essential. Thankfully neither of my local stores is one way, Lidl is the better option, they even let you shop with other people

@Deux thank you for introducing the word "planogram" to my vocabulary!

I could do this for my local Tesco, aldi and Lidl and to a less detailed extent Asda and Sainsbury’s too.

We moved two weeks before lockdown. My new local stores are all laid out differently.

I always have to go backwards a few times (and my Lidl has no one way system it’s still a free for all). Not because I don’t know the layout (I do in my sleep). But I get to the 4th aisle and they don’t have something crucial for a meal so I need to completely rethink what I was going to cook and then get more ingredients from aisle 2 or something.

QuitMoaning me too. Not the half-aisle thing though. I'm now contemplating it though.

I hate it when supermarkets move shit around. I’ll never forget my former local Morrisons doing it one night, went in the next day and I honestly couldn’t find a thing. Took me months to get used to the new layout.

Aridane · 29/04/2020 07:14

Do you not write your list this way all the time? My mum taught me to do that.

I doubt most people do - if they’re jotting down ingredients for a recipe, I doubt they sort by aisle number

teqcar · 29/04/2020 07:16

I don't even write a list never mind do it in aisle order! I had no idea until now I am in the minority.

The banners in our local store are either incomplete or incorrect.

Well I've done online shopping every single week for almost 16 years so don't know the layout of any of my local supermarkets. I do go into some of them sometimes for top up shops ( or did pre Covid anyway) but never used any particular one regularly enough to bother learning the layouts. In fact I often avoided big supermarkets when I needed just a few things even before as it was so inefficient to spend ages finding stuff.

The spreadsheet with aisle and direction flags is genius but I think I would take ages setting it up . Anyway we've avoided shopping in-store since mid March so it hasn't been a issue for us so far

blingblangbling · 29/04/2020 08:05

Theres an app for that, one I use allows you to have a standard grocery list which remembers products you've bought. Allows you to enter prices and photos and the section the item can be found in. Share your list with your partners phone. And create sub-lists for each supermarket with aisles ordered for that supermarket and products only available in that supermarket, or ones you can get from anywhere. As you buy stuff you just tick it off, and if you have bothered with prices (I usually don't), then you get the grand total. Great if you want to make sure your partner buys the right stuff and no excuses. The one I use is Mighty Grocery, but there are others that have similar functionality.
It does have a learning curve, but once you've mastered it its brilliant.

I've never really been a list maker before Covid! I'm now shopping for three elderly neighbors plus my mum so our shopping is like a military operation!
One neighbor gives me a typed list in the order of our local Sainsbury's.. all other lists are transcribed on to his.

The lists along with our menu planning will be something which we take forward to the future post Covid.

BruceAndNosh · 07/05/2020 10:48

Well I did it.
Took photos of aisles banners (I could get at least 6 in one snap) plus paid a bit more attention to Fruit and veg and random stuff
Did a diagram and posted on Facebook local pages - plenty of positive feedback.
It will certainly make my own shopping easier going forward.
