in hating DS1's enthusiasm for playing the recorder?

He had his first lesson on Friday. We've been treated to several concerts a day ever since. Which has been fine, really ... except today I am v tired and hungover, and I don't want to listen to loud things next to my head!

(Last night was worth it, though. )

Not unreasonable at all.
My parents used to send me to the shed to practise my violin.

I had recorder lessons when I was a child. I think my parents are looking forward to ds doing the same so that I can truly appreciate how much they suffered.

Why doesn't someone invent an instrument that is easy to learn and that has a soft, melodious sound even when played out of tune and without rhythm?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 16/09/2007 14:34

now i know why my parents hated the recorded

NotQuiteCockney · 16/09/2007 14:34

Well, I think the recorder sounds as good as anything does, badly played. It's just really loud. And he loves it, which is great, really ... just not today [nauseated].

(Bran, I went to a local nightclub last night, it was really pleasant and welcoming and relaxed. By the way.)

Flute

that is why there are so many flautists

my friend and I (trumpet players) used to take the piss out of all the glossy blond flautists - I realise now that we just had much more tolerant parents than they did!

BeetrootBevan · 16/09/2007 14:35

No not unreasonable

when they get good it actually sounds fabg too - which has surprised me.

DD is in a recorder consort at school and rthey play some really lovely struff

Blandmum · 16/09/2007 14:36

I see your recorder, and raise you a cello and a chanter!
learn to do this and say 'Very nice dear'

PondusLector · 16/09/2007 14:39

a harp always sounds nice

not easy though

BeetrootBevan · 16/09/2007 14:40

dd has just started the clarinet - and we having to back to the 'lovely dear' throough gritted teeth

and as for ds2 French Horn

NotQuiteCockney · 16/09/2007 14:41

Oh, I'm being very enthusiastic, I promise! I'm actually totally thrilled about it - the music thing is a great benefit of DS1's current school, and I'm so glad he's enthusiastic about it.

Just slightly less glad today.

I got in at 2am last night, went to sleep just before 3. And DS2 woke me at 6am. Oh, and DH is away for the week, as of yesterday afternoon, so it's all me today.

Ok, my problem is mostly self-inflicted. But still ...
