In canada. There's a local school in our parts named after a particularly disreputable rf member and petitions have been circulating to change it. Curious to know if this is common in UK?

There's the Dragon School in Oxford, but I'm not sure which of the Royal family it's named after
That must be St George, not a Royal?

Chillicheese123 · 27/04/2020 21:02

The fact that alumni of the dragon school are called Old Dragons makes me smile 😬

I can think of more hospitals than schools!

Know a primary school that changed its name from the road it was on to Jubilee to comemorate the Silver Jubilee in 1977 or when ever it was.

Very unusual to name anything after living royals, as I believe the Queen’s Consent is required.

Tends to be private (ie old) or grammar schools ime. There's QEGs near me (Queen Elizabeth Grammar school), and there used to be a KEQM (King Edward's and Queen Mary's), a merger of two single sex schools, which then merged with another and became something else. Also Kings School, Worcester.

Mountbatten School was named after Lord Mountbatten.
He gave the land it was built on.
He was a governor and heavily involved with it till his death.

Who's Queen Eleanor?!

Just remembered- I think i read Susan Howatch book a gazillion years ago based on the Plantagent family, and if Queen Eleanor is who I vaguely rememebr to be, very interesting woman and well worth a school or three!

@Chillicheese123 I know right!

We have the QE II (Queen Elizabeth 2nd) school in our town which is a well respected Special Needs school.

There's Prince William in Oundle. But not names after the current prince as it was named long before he was born.

MorganKitten · 28/04/2020 00:40

I think it’s mainly Saints?

Queen Elizabeth Girls and Queen Elizabeth Boys, both in North London.

AvalancheKit · 28/04/2020 02:47

Is it The Jim Royle Academy?

Interesting question. I have personally never come across a school named after a current Royal, now that I think about it. I've only come across hospitals, and of those, none were built in the 21st century. Naming public buildings after royals seems less fashionable than it was.
