To think DH is being ridiculous and this is far more likely to be a touch of hayfever?

I am shielding. I have not been out for 5 weeks apart from in our garden. Food deliveries have been from local farm shop and fruit and veg deliveries, milk delivered as usual etc. DH has been to the supermarket for bits and pieces 3 times in the last 5 weeks for no longer than around 20 mins - social distance observed each time. He takes the dog out twice a day through the fields, we live in a v small village surrounded by fields and he hardly sees a soul and if he does, they acknowledge from a distance etc.

He cut the grass yesterday and I was out pottering around the garden afterwards but came in because I kept sneezing. This morning the dog has come back from his walk covered in grass/hay/whatever and I've been sneezing again. Took antihistamine an hour ago and am now fine.

He is now stressing that I may have 'it', rather than just a touch of hayfever. I think he's being ridiculous as I can't fathom how it possibly can be.

He's worried. I'm sure as it goes on and everything is sorted by a hayfever tablet a day, he'll stop.

lemontreebird · 27/04/2020 11:57

Is sneezing a symptom anyway?

redwoodmazza · 27/04/2020 11:58

Don't think sneezing is a Covid symptom.

BiggerBoat1 · 27/04/2020 12:00

Sneezing is not a symptom of Covid but it is a symptom of hay fever.

RedskyAtnight · 27/04/2020 12:03

Advice from RCGP:
"We would normally expect to see a number of patients at this time of year suffering with symptoms of allergic rhinitis, more commonly known as hay fever – an allergic reaction to various types of pollen. Typically, patients suffering with hay fever will experience symptoms such as a runny or blocked nose, sneezing, sore and watering eyes – but also sometimes a cough. Some of these presenting problems, especially a cough, can also be symptoms of COVID-19.

"There are some important characteristics of hay fever that could help patients distinguish between it and COVID-19. Allergy symptoms tend to be milder and fluctuate depending on the time of day as pollen levels are often higher in the afternoon and evening. Similarly, wet weather may lead to patients experiencing milder symptoms.

"Patients who regularly suffer from hay fever will be familiar with the symptoms they usually get and the severity of them. In instances were a patient experiences a significant deviation from this, or have specific symptoms of COVID-19 - a new, persistent cough and a high temperature - we urge them to follow government advice and self- isolate.

"If symptoms persist or worsen, patients should seek medical advice from the NHS 111 service, or their GP."

Sneezing isn’t a common symptom. If you develop a temperature, constant cough or terrible headache and body aches then I’d be worried but yeah, it sounds like hayfever.

Fluffybutter · 27/04/2020 12:14

As said above , sneezing isn’t a symptom of covid.
I have had hayfever since beginning of March (think mine is from trees ) but has been a lot worse in the last couple of days .
Your husband is just worried about you but he needs to calm down and realise that not every sniffle is something awful .

ErickBroch · 27/04/2020 12:29

Hayfever. It's driving me mad right now i am having to lock myself up in the house - severe rhinitis from it!

Chillicheese123 · 27/04/2020 12:30

Pollen is high at the moment. Highly doubt sneezing is a sign of covid

NaNaNaNaNaNaBaNaNa · 27/04/2020 12:34

Even if you did have it (I'm pretty sure you don't), what purpose is to be served by worrying about it? There is no treatment for it, so you would just have to wait and see how it affects you and seek help if you became dangerously unwell.

Highonpotandused · 27/04/2020 12:48

Yes he is being ridiculous but you also started a thread about it for confirmation!

Ronia · 27/04/2020 12:54

I think ridiculous is a bit strong. Lots of people are finding this all to be really overwhelming. My DH does all the grocery shopping trips and finds it ramps up his anxiety considerably. We both suffer from hay fever but as I've been out less I can rationally recognise it as that. He's been translating hayfever symptoms into Covid ones when he's feeling stressed and anxious. He knows it's not rational and the symptoms don't always match but anxiety isn't always rational.

Your DH may be feeling stressed, scared and anxious. Cut him a little slack.

beebeedandelion · 27/04/2020 13:13

Pollen is very high right now, I had to use my hay fever eye drops four times yesterday (the maximum) whereas normally I rarely use them or just use them once a day.

DollysDrawers · 27/04/2020 13:57

Yes he is being ridiculous but you also started a thread about it for confirmation!

@Highonpotandused Confirmation about him being a little silly, yes. Not for myself. Given that I'm shielding and the nature of my health issues, if I actually thought for a moment that I had Covid19 I'd be in touch with my doctor straight away. I can be tested at any point if necessary. Which it isn't.

I have been suffering for two months, you got of lightly OP. Take my piriton every morning have to wait a few hours for it to kick in, I am not shopping in the morning because I am a sneezing, wheezy, coughing mess and do not want to scare the natives.

flipperdoda · 27/04/2020 15:14

I think he's worried and anxious because he loves you, rather than being ridiculous. Yes it doed sound like hayfever and I can see why it would be a bit frustrating to have him fussing - but underneath it sounds like it's coming from a place of care so I'd try to cut him slack Smile

mygenericusername · 27/04/2020 15:18

I have the worst hay fever I’ve ever had this year. The lack of smog must not be suppressing the pollen. I’ve had a constant headache and cough since the rape started blossoming here about 5 weeks ago

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 27/04/2020 15:26

I think it's fairly normal for anxiety to highten at times like this. Of course the likelihood of you having Covid and not just a bit of hayfever is incredibly small but he's worried about you.

thedancingbear · 27/04/2020 15:31

Yep, he's a total nob being anxious and concerned about his DP's health at a time like this.

What a wanker! I think you should start an internet thread about him OP>

Springersrock · 27/04/2020 15:32

I also have the worst hay fever I’ve had in years

I have a dry cough, sneezing/itchy nose and I want to rip my own eyes out.

Hay fever meds keep on top of most of it but I do still have a very occasional tickly throat and cough

We have horses and it’s always at its worst when I’m at the yard - grass, hay, we use wood shavings for bedding which have always irritated my throat. I always seem to want to cough my head off when there are people around

mynameiscalypso · 27/04/2020 15:33

Bring back the pollution! It's the only thing that stops my hayfever from being shit. It's awful isn't it?

DollysDrawers · 27/04/2020 16:57

Yep, he's a total nob being anxious and concerned about his DP's health at a time like this.

I didn't say he was a nob @thedancingbear. Maybe I should have put 'lighthearted' in my OP or a couple of laughing emojis so that some people didn't get their knickers in a twist.

Highonpotandused · 28/04/2020 12:24

I think starting a thread about a little sneezing and hay fever and your DH’s reaction is getting your knickers in a twist actually.
