Not an AIBU, I've posted here for the traffic

Since starting school DD has started being sick in her mouth, she either spits it out or swallows it depending where she is

I thought it was due to the excitement of school but it has happened at home a lot since lockdown. The other day she woke up and started playing quietly in her room then came into my room complaining her heart was hurting and she had just been sick in her mouth. I felt her chest and her heart was beating that hard I could feel it with my hand

This lasted around a minute and then she was perfectly fine after that

But with her keep being sick in her mouth since lockdown im now wondering if she has an actual problem somewhere in her body or somthing.

I rang up the doctors and had a telephone consultation when she complained about her heart and they said if it carried on over the weekend to ring up again and get an on the day appointment, so i just have done and they have given us another telephone consultation!

I appreciate everywhere is rushed and strained but I am starting to worry that somthing is really wrong with my little girl, it's not nornal to keep being sick like that is it?

Does anyone have any expiernece of their child randomly keep throwing up small amounts?

She eats, drinks and sleeps well and it happens so randomly

I don't have experience of a child with this but I had very similar after the birth of my DD 2 years ago, I endured it up until last November, that turned out to be reflux, I'd have heartburn and multiple times a day sort of like a hiccup and then a bit of sick in my mouth. Ask her what the pain fees like ie, burning, stabbing, squeezing etc. If it's burning I'd say it may well be reflux.
If so you may be able to get some over the counter medicine to see if that helps.
Hope this is helpful for you xx

BillywigSting · 27/04/2020 09:33

It does sound like it could be reflux, possibly brought on by stress?

cookielove · 27/04/2020 09:33

Definitely sounds like reflux, poor little mite! So painful!

Happymum12345 · 27/04/2020 09:50

I’m a year 1 teacher and children quite often say this to me. It could well be a reflux/anxiety thing. Try not to worry too much.

NameChangerGameChanger3214 · 27/04/2020 09:53

Thank you for the replies, I've heard of reflux in babies but never children, I'm going to have a google in a minute

Yes she says It burns her chest aswell,

I did wonder if it was the excitement of school but since being at home i know its not the excitement. It could well be stress as she is finding this hard, she's getting really fed up with her little brother ( hes 3 )

Im waiting for another telephone consultation,

Is it awful ill be relieved if its reflux? I've been really worried its somthing sinister

It says about bad breath which she has had for a while even though we take care of her teeth. Her breath used to smell really sweet like DS's

I get this with heartburn. Sick up in my mouth around twice a day. Rennes tablets help, not sure if they are OK for children but would reccomened asking pharmacist.

Good luck OP!

KindnessCrusader · 27/04/2020 09:57

Yes, my Son did this. The Dr gave gaviscon which helped a bit. His started in a new school year too, and I think it started as an anxiety thing. It then became a bit of a habit. What actually helped was not mentioning it (hard when you are on the receiving end of vommy breath I know! He just eventually stopped and I hadn't thought about it much until I read your post. It will end! Thanks

collywobble · 27/04/2020 10:01

This sounds like reflux. My son had it when he was 10 and he didn't mention it he said he just kept swallowing it back. The acid gradually rotted all his teeth away and he had to have them completely rebonded because of it. It was such a slow process that even regular 6 monthly dental check ups didn't pick it up straight away. He has to take a medication every day to prevent it. It's called silent reflux for him as it happens mostly at night when he's laid down.

HoppingPavlova · 27/04/2020 10:05

It's reflux.

MoominKitty · 27/04/2020 10:09

I've had reflux/Gerd since I was baby.

I was a sicky baby and a sicky child, I often brought up, and still do, small amounts of vomit after eating, exercise, drinking any fluid and when stressed I usually just swallow it now as used to it 😂.

She may have a floppy valve which can be fixed with an op, but if stress related, some child friendly antiacids or a drink of milk after food will help ☺.

Oldraver · 27/04/2020 10:13

DS had very severe Reflux and still ahs a small amount at 14

To a child it will seem as though their heart is burning, hence it being called heartburn

userabcname · 27/04/2020 10:28

Definitely sounds like acid reflux. Might be worth noting what she's eaten before she gets it - mine is triggered by certain foods and I can largely control it through diet if I avoid them!

NameChangerGameChanger3214 · 27/04/2020 11:55

The GP was a bit dismissive when she rang, I said i wondered if it was Reflux as she had a lot of the symptons and the GP said it was unlikely because it was really uncommon for this age and more common in babies

She asked if I could go to the surgery and collect a sample pot and bring in a urine sample from DD.

DP has been to a chemist and spoke about DD's symptons and they have given us gaviscon for her so i am going to give that a try and hope it helps her

Definetly going to start keeping a note of what shes eating and see if its anything in particular that sets it off

My DS was exactly the same as your DD although he did have reflux when he was a baby. He had an investigation to see if it was anything serious but it was just acid reflux. He grew out of it by about age 10.
