We didn't go anywhere this summer & thought it would be nice to go soemwhere for half term. i can't seem to find anything costing less than £2,000, even just a flight & self catering apartment!
I remember going on city breaks with dh about 5 years ago (pre dd) & only spending about £1,000 for 2 of us, staying in (cheap) hotels.
As I am a teacher we've alsways gone in holiday time, so why am I suddenly unable to find a holiday I think I might want to go on without it costing so much?

Some villas will do per-night prices, especially at this time of year when they're not so busy.
Good luck again - it took me many hours to find our holiday this year but it was worth it. Now, if only DP would double the budget it would be so much easier .

quick update before bed - just found one villa which had the normal list of facilities, and immediately after it
'infants £50'
do you think they are offering a companion for dd?

That seems remarkably cheap for an infant. Do you get to take it home with you?

this villa would cost you £300 and seems to be free in October.

It would be nice and toasty in Lanzagrotty in October!

oh god I feel just like this

I get depressed and experience inertia

I'm trying for a break in May next year or in Summer holidays .. don't care where just want warm, pool, beach

how old is your DD ?

Don't get stressed over it, you don't need to go abroad or spend money to enjoy time with the family. Far more important things to stress about.

We haven't had a holiday since 1997 because we can't afford to but we both just take time off and enjoy being together and going out for days, I love it. Don't have to worry about money or dodgy food or water (or even sunburn) and we can speak the lingo too!!

mylittlefreya · 16/09/2007 10:32

It's frustrating, isn't it.
Do you speak the lingo of where you want to go at all? I have booked French cottages in French before - at a fraction of the price.

How about this campsite in Tuscany.

We have stayed there a few times, it is a lovely campsite, the bungalows are basic but good. You would need a 2 bedroom one, costs in October 57euros/night. The mobile homes are even cheaper. Don't book through Eurocamp or whoever it is that does the packages in UK, they are much more expensive.

You can fly with Ryanair to Pisa/Florence airport and take the train to Florence then to Vigline. From Vigline there is a bus to the campsite. Or hire a car to get you there. Once on the campsite you could manage without a car.

One there you can spend a lot of time on the campsite, if the weather is still nice enough the pool area is great for children. There is a playarea, shops etc. The campsite runs bus trips to Florence, Pisa, Chianti...

There are several good restaurants onsite and a yummy Gelateria. You can sit outside the bungalow in the evening and have a glass of wine.

They also have appartements in the old villa. It is lovely too, you can use the facilites but it is a bit quieter. And the villa also houses the wine bar.
