To want a new career?

I mean, I'll never get a job in this market and will be lucky if I hold onto the one I have.

I'm 36, work in recruitment, earn averagely (45k) and all of this has made me realised how bloody pointless my job is and how precarious it is. Not worthwhile, not fulfilling and not respected.

Has anyone moved out of recruitment into something else? I work internally for one of the big accountancy firms.

In recruitment 12 years, currently furloughed and have spent a large part of my time so far researching career changes!

I agree with you that recruitment is not a respected job and it’s an industry that can be soul destroying at times.

I’m worried about studying for 3 years or more, to then start at the bottom off the ladder again, possibly on a lesser salary than I’m on now with a lot of student debt! It’s so hard to know what to do for the best.

I hear you. I work in HR and want out. Being furloughed has given me time to pause and reflect on what I want to do, but it's the worst possible timing! Just have to hold on and bide my time til things improve.

Following this thread. I’ve worked in university administration for over 20 years and want to do something different but other than IT I don’t know what. I’m almost 48 and just don’t know if further study at my age is worth it.

@Glitteryone same - but nothing seems to jump out as an obvious move!

I actually feel embarrassed to tell people what I do - doesn't make you feel good about yourself!
