To think parcels shouldn't be left with neighbours

I've been waiting for a delivery (of gluten free food so reasonably essential). I've just found a card dumped in the middle of my path to say they attempted to deliver at 7.45 but I wasn't in so they left it at "door x". I live on a long road, x is a good 30 houses away on the opposite side and there are 6 or 7 door xs on different side streets that are nearer. I'm obviously not knocking on all those doors to get it back. I was also in at 7.45, in my kitchen which is near the door and no-one came to the door.

But in any event, I don't think they should be trying neighbours at the moment. My next door neighbour has covid at the moment and wouldn't order for themselves but might accept a parcel out of habit. Others are vulnerable and don't need extra contact risks.

Our neighbour steals parcels that are given to them. Denies all knowledge of having received them. It's well known in the street.

I’m always taking parcels in for neighbours. Doesn’t bother me even now.

YANBU I once got a card saying my parcel had been left with Laura in our apartment building - there are 60 apartments and I don't know anybody called Laura! Luckily my honest neighbour came round with the parcel. (She is not called Laura!)

I had a delivery the other day which was left with a neighbour. Usually they just leave things in the porch and I have no idea why they didn’t this time but no drama. Neighbour just put the parcel over the back fence and told us (we were in the garden). Everyone washed their hands, no significant risk. surely you just knock at number x (the one on your street), ask if they have your parcel, and collect it?

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 27/04/2020 06:49

I agree with you, OP, that they shouldn't leave parcels with others during this crisis. And why dump a card in the middle of your path? It makes no sense. Why didn't they just put the card through your letterbox?

Do you think they left it at a property so far away because they couldn't park due to cars outside nearby homes?

SnuggyBuggy · 27/04/2020 07:04

To be fair if you're shielding and not expecting anyone it's probably best not to answer the door.

StealthPolarBear · 27/04/2020 07:11

"
What if they just marked it as a failed delivery and took it back to the depot, you'd then have to go to collect it."
Given the op was in at the time there was absolutely no reason for the delivery to fail.

SnuggyBuggy · 27/04/2020 07:14

I think they just put random outcomes on those things. I've had several where they say it's been left with a neighbour and it's in the wheelie bin or porch.

Probs George had a parcel of his own being delivered I guess and easier to leave yours with his.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/04/2020 07:36

leaving with a next door neighbour IF YOU ARE OUT is fine - but they should attempt to deliver to you; if you are out, leaving with a next door neighbour is fine if you have a text or card saying where it is.

Your individual delivery - YANBU to be annoyed, but the title, generally leaving stuff with neighbours, YABU.

I live in a block of 24 apartments - if couriers gain access to the building, parcels get left in the lobby, or outside my door (possibly the 'to my door' more common for me as I am ground floor). Outside of covid, if this didn't happen I'd rarely get deliveries, although I do use click and collect more, of get things delivered to friends with a nearby shop.

Maybe there is another parcel at number X?
I dont know why everyone is having a go at you not knowing which house to go to tho. I would have to pretty much pass 2 other number 1s to get to number 1 on my street. Road names exist for a reason!
