To ask what would be a fair price for three hours of carpenting work?

Basically as it says in the title. I had some issues with one of our windows (crooked in the frame because of a storm and needed new handles), it took three hours to fix, and I was presented with a very high bill (I won't mention the amount yet because I don't want to influence the answers). I am in the London area, so used to paying extra, but woah. Just wondering what you would have guessed is reasonable, because I feel like I was so far off and cannot decide whether I am being cheated and should pursue it.

Why do you say that Pika09? You are at odds with almost everyone else on the thread. Am asking out of interest as I certainly can't afford to pay any tradesperson to come and do any work at my house for about the next 10 years a while.

Have you paid it? If not, say you are shocked at the price and can he break it down.

Definitely get an itemised bill. Sounds like he’s taking advantage of possibly a drop in trade. £200 an hour is an absolute scandal.

Op, how much were the handles though? I don' think we can properly comment until we know this? Also his flat rate call out charge?

Tell him you expected £400 tops and if he has a company which isn't VAT registered. Just keep telling him that it's excessive and to give a breakdown.
