Click and collect

This is semi lighthearted as I know there are bigger problems to worry about.

I managed to get a hallowed click and collect with Asda. Thought it was bloody Christmas.
Joyously proceeded to fill my trolley and wait in anticipation. Everyone was excited, lovely shopping and hardly any risk of dying. What a treat.

Today is the day.

Woke up to an email from Asda listing the substitutions and unavailable items. It's more than half the bloody order!
For example, I'm getting 24 cans of Pepsi Max instead of Diet Coke, and is universally disliked in this house. I'm getting no bread at all as apparently it's all 'unavailable' - no bread at all in Asda?!?? Of course, no pasta or rice either, lest I should want to make an actual meal. I won't bore you further, but some meat is unavaible, some subs, my cheese has been subbed, other things not getting at all. it's bizarrely really upset me as I have been trying to stay away from supermarkets and have been only able to buy very limited products locally and I was so happy to have got a click and collect.
I'm already spending an absolute fortune on food shopping at the moment, and this has a chance to stock up a bit again. It just feels wasted and I don't really want to have to go back instore to return anything as the whole point of c&c was to stay away!

Aibu to be a bit upset by this or am I a daft old goat who should just be happy to be getting any food at all?

You can reject substitutions as they bring it over, they remove them and you’re not charged. Once you’ve touched them you can’t.
I’m getting the same (different supermarket) but I’m just glad I don’t need to go in store (although I am in the vulnerable group) so make do with what we have.

You don't have to go in store to return items, just tell the driver you don't want them. Though in future, if you really dont want something subbed then click the tick in the subs list. We (adults) only like full coke, so if I order any I make sure the sub is off on that item.

To be honest, I was really nervous about going to the supermarket (we always had a c and c until now as no car), but I was glad I did - they had far more on the shelves that my last few home orders! I'd like to say I made a saving, but unlike the joy of sticking to a list, being in the shop itself meant I had a severe case of the 'oh I'll just treat myselfs' Blush.

Sorry, we only have home delivery, but same thing just they bring it to your door.

My order had no lemonade, eggs, salt, tomatoes or milk! No substitutions, just unavailable. This is click and collect from a huge supermarket. Over Easter I had ordered hot x buns and they were unavailable. The chap who brought the order to the car said there were loads in store. I really can't understand how the system works.

I think I might have to be brave and make a supermarket trip this evening to see if I can get some of the things that I haven't got - I'm sure they must have bread, someone I know went and said it was quite well stocked, so I had high hopes for my order.

Going to have a coffee and try to see the funny side - think I just had my hopes built up a bit. God, it's a sad day when you're genuinely excited about a supermarket order and upset when it doesn't go to plan.
Everything feels so bizarre at the moment anyway.

I suspect the order collectors work in the morning before the shelf stockers have restocked from the previous evening as all those things are currently available in most stores. I have a click and collect next week and am hoping most will be ok - but it's an afternoon slot so more likely that the shelves have been restocked by then.

The only things that seem to be in really short supply are baking ingredients. No flour (of any description) no caster sugar and no yeast.

Jellyhater · 23/04/2020 09:48

I have the same issue with my delivery for work. We ordered a tube of savlon and they have subbed it for a 3 pack of XL durex. Not sure of that logic 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've had two c&c orders at my local Asda recently (never done it before now) and for substitutions they say just to take them and claim a refund once home. So it's then up to you whether you use them, give them away or bin them (which is a bit of a waste - can you cook with the pepsi max?). See what yours say when you pick it up.

But no bread does seem a bit odd :(

@Jellyhater :D

My Dad did a click and collect with Asda yesterday, he had Guinness on his order which was apparently unavailable, the Asda worker then told my Dad they'd probably have some in store if he wanted to go queue. .. Well if there's some in store, why hasn't it been picked for c&c orders?! 🤷‍♀️

PrettyTricky · 23/04/2020 10:39

I think this is correct about click and collect pickers now mainly doing night shifts, as I guess is difficult to socially distance otherwise, and so it's really what's left before restock.

Good to know I can keep substitutions and claim refund - feel a bit guilty doing that though, feels a bit wrong.

I'm thinking I will get up early tomorrow and see what I can get instore....am honestly terrified of being in a supermarket though, aargh!
