To ask those that go to independent schools what fee discount has been offered

My child goes to a nursery attached to an independent primary school. Has anyone going to an independent been offered a fee discount? Ours have offered a blanket nominal discount for all years in the school, but obviously in nursery they will only be doing a tiny bit of "work", so it seems more appropriate for a bigger discount the lower down the school you are. AIBU? We will be giving notice shortly too as jobs are likely to go. Nursery for us was there for socialisation and childcare.

15%

TowerRingInferno · 23/04/2020 07:30

Should have added that’s in the senior school.

50% kindergarten
30% reception to y2
20 % y 3-6

Started at 15% then increased to 20%. They're tuning a full timetable but the online lessons are hit and miss. I feel they're justifying the reduction if that makes sense?
We've already dropped RE and art because it's just too much!

HandfulofDust · 23/04/2020 07:47

20% off but we were invited to pay full fees if we were willing and able to contribute towards fees of those in financial difficulties. Nursery fees have been completely waived as they obviously can't really do online learning to the same extent - I think they're still uploading little bits and bobs for nursery kids though).

HandfulofDust · 23/04/2020 07:48

Also they're dojng a full time table pretty much - work set and marked for each class and a teach available on google meet so they can ask questions if they get stuck.

No discount at all for us.

Changeofname79 · 23/04/2020 08:23

We have 15% or 20% if you pay for the term upfront rather than paying monthly. They have also put the September fee increase on hold till some time in 2021.

The school are providing online zoom lessons for all lessons but obviously its impossible to provide a full school experience which is what you pay for. My son has additional needs and benefits from the smaller classes and 1:1 attention amongst other things so I do think it is fair that there is some discount. The school will be able to furlough some non teaching staff and there will be other costs saved by not having all the children there.

I do think some people wont/wont be able to pay but I think if we want a school available in September its vital the fees are paid.

10% off for years 5 up, 30% off for reception to year 4 and we’re paying nothing for our dd in their nursery dept.

They’re still claiming government 15 hours funding and have been incredibly good and say that will cover the sending out of daily work / story meets for the nursery age children as realistically they can’t do very much for their age group.

Gemma2019 · 23/04/2020 08:35

OP your nursery will certainly be accepting the early years funding from government but not passing it on to parents. Some independent schools pass on the discount, a lot don't.
