Neighbour splattering my car while washing their own

I know this sounds petty, but my neighbour is a bit of a petty person who seems to do lots of little things to irritate me.
There's a family of 6 adults living next door, they have 4 cars, 1 parked on their drive and 3 elsewhere. We both park in a bit outside our houses, there's a diagram below.
Basically their cars surround my car, when i wash my car i use a bucket. My car is quite new and i take really good care of it. They've been washing their cars suddenly since lockdown and they use a hose and don't do it on their drive, they do it surrounding my car and my car is getting splattered with muddy water and it looks rubbish.
They do it as a family and run about being silly and I've seen them aim it at my car a few times. They've now washed them 3 times in 5 weeks and my car looks stupid as one side is filthy and one is clean and waxed.
I won't say anything, i imagine its partly on purpose, they're the type who do things like move their car very close to mine to wind me up, slam doors when my children make a sound outside, so its not worth the aggro.
But i just need to know I'm not being unreasonable and they're being idiots.
Btw i can't park elsewhere, I've got 3 toddlers and need to be next to the front door to get them in together.

(I'm reading it back now and I know sound petty Blush )

Yes. You do sound petty.

MT2017 · 22/04/2020 17:56

Not petty but the only one getting wound up is you...if you can, try and let it go. All cars get a bit dirty on the road so it won't be noticed (except by you) Wink

DollyDoDo · 22/04/2020 17:57

Its water not acid you really need to get a grip.

Tootletum · 22/04/2020 17:58

You don't sound petty in the context. Four cars, FFS.

Ghostoast · 22/04/2020 17:58

I'm not going to say anything to them it's just annoying that its happening so frequently and looks so stupid Grin

Your neighbours sound daft - with any luck they will get bored.

This sort of behaviour is attritional, I’d be annoyed too.

With any luck you can be the bigger person and ignore, ignore, ignore.

Xxx

bluebell34567 · 22/04/2020 17:59

you are not petty, they are.
they are trying to annoy, irritate you. they are mean, not very nice people.

Sparklesocks · 22/04/2020 18:01

I know it’s easier said than done but try not to let it get to you. If they are doing it to be petty then they’re most likely looking for a reaction, so don’t give them one.

MissMarks · 22/04/2020 18:01

Not something I can imagine getting worked up about. Are you not busy with your kids

bluebell34567 · 22/04/2020 18:02

next time when they splash on your car tell them at the point and ask them if they would like if it happened to theirs.
it is respect and being considerate to others.
i cant imagine someone does that to a brand new, washed, waxed car. its just mean.

LST · 22/04/2020 18:04

@Tootletum 4 cars... for 6 people. Not really unreasonable is it

DorisDances · 22/04/2020 18:09

I don't think you are being petty but they are giving off warning signs that they would cause you aggro if you said anything. You need therefore to try and not let it get to you.

Ghostoast · 22/04/2020 18:10

@MissMarks what a bizarre question, why would my kids keep me so busy that I would be unable to form opinions?

I think you need some fairy liquid, a bucket and a sponge. Time for your dcs to learn how to wash your car. And oh, whoops, got the neighbours car wet. What’s good for the goose and all that!

RabidChinchilla · 22/04/2020 18:22

I'd be really fucked off with somebody parking really close to me! It annoys me enough when they do it unintentionally.

A woman at work keeps doing it (no excuse, just bad parking) despite me having had a polite word. My car is a three door sports hatch with bucket seats. It's also lowered as standard as it's the special edition GTI. The long doors need extra space to open, and you need room to step in as sitting on the edge and swivelling would damage the side bolsters on the bucket seats.

I had to awkwardly climb across from the passenger side (not easy in a sports car) one day due to her bad parking and I accidentally kicked the leather trim with my shoe and have ripped it right above the glove box where it's really visible. 😡 It's unlikely to be fixable for much under a grand when you factor in labour, especially as the leather panel runs right across and under the stereo/above gearbox.

Also had to have three dents pulled out in the last year (and two in previous car) due to idiots parking too close and bashing door into my car. One was potentially going to cost £600 or even a new door, as it was right on the crease where they can't always get it out. They nearly had to fill it, re-contour it, and then spray the whole side of car to blend it in, and all for a 50p sized ridge/dent.

Some people just don't get it. Moment of carelessness costs someone else £600.

Snufkins · 22/04/2020 18:30

Do the same to theirs when you wash yours then they might start to get the hint to stop.

MyHeartIsInCornwall · 22/04/2020 18:30

It would annoy me a bit, but I’d let it go. Just go out and wash yours once they’ve finished theirs 😂 😉

MyHeartIsInCornwall · 22/04/2020 18:30

And by that I mean...treat them as they are you. I.e. carelessly

LunchBoxPolice · 22/04/2020 18:31

You are being petty, but you have 3 toddlers in lockdown so I feel sorry for you.

DioneTheDiabolist · 22/04/2020 18:33

Wash your car at the same time they're washing theirs OP and have a passive aggressive water fight.Grin

TheOrigBrave · 22/04/2020 18:40

I would go out when they're washing them and ask if, next time, they can let you know beforehand and you'll move your car while they're cleaning theirs.

Seems like a reasonable request. I did the same when my neighbour's grandson pressure washed the path right next to my car, and splattered my car.

RabidChinchilla · 22/04/2020 18:45

One of my worries at the moment is the trend of self-appointed lockdown police egging cars which are supposedly on non essential journeys. As a key worker I'm out and about all day so a prime target. Eggshells can actually damage the clearcoat/paint, which most people don't know.

I had a chav egg my car once ages ago and I got out and busted his nose. Not my proudest moment but I was already having a really bad day. But hopefully he'll think next time (it was his unlucky day as I competed in female amateur mma at the time and am pretty good with my knees and elbows thanks to years of thai boxing).

Yellowsubmarinedreams · 22/04/2020 19:09

I'd wash mine and do the same to theirs. They'll get the message.

SordidSplendour · 22/04/2020 19:15

You sound worryingly paranoid OP.
Is it just these neighbors you feel this way about or other people?
