To feel so sorry for all the staff losing their jobs, but Cath Kidston was a load of over priced wank.

Just read that Cath Kidston won't be opening up again after the lock down. My sympathies are with the people who will now be out of a job, but I really didn't get it.

You and me both!

I have a rather nice CK coffee mug which I like because it's bigger than a standard mug. Cost about £1 form a charity shop. But some of the rest, especially the bags...

Ah well, tastes differ, and that's okay Smile

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 22/04/2020 07:07

The clothes are expensive but the bags are no more pricey than any other high street branded bags. I have a few and like them. And they last well. I will miss Cath Kidston.

MindatWork · 22/04/2020 07:15

I’ll be a bit sad to see them go - our changing bag for DD is from there and we had a couple of clothing bits that we’ve had huge amounts of wear out of and still in really good condition.

However it was all bought at an outlet store, wouldn’t ever pay full price. I think they were the ‘in thing’ for quite a while (I remember my younger sisters being obsessed with the different prints and getting matching bags/purses/mugs) but times and trends have moved on and they’ve both kept up.

CottonSock · 22/04/2020 07:19

I felt the prices were ok and stuff was durable..not much experience though as there are only so many bags I need

YeahWhatevver · 22/04/2020 07:20

I think they're moving online only

I suspect a lot of retailers will use the shutdown to ditch their highstreet stores and go online.

BillywilliamV · 22/04/2020 07:21

Get that boot in there people! Go for it!

This doesn't seem like a very boot-y thread so far. Posters seem more mildly unimpressed than scornful. Give it a page or two before anyone sounds as though they're actually glad it's gone.

Macncheeseballs · 22/04/2020 07:24

I am not a fan but I guess most people will own something that others consider to be 'overpriced wank'

MimiLaRue · 22/04/2020 07:24

Yeah I agree. Horrible products- overpriced and twee.

Yuck.

whipdido · 22/04/2020 07:25

I think it was a nice place to get a little gift for someone.

SachaStark · 22/04/2020 07:26

Awful for the people losing their jobs.

I wouldn’t buy from them anymore as my tastes have changed, but there was a time in my early twenties where lots of my homewares were Cath Kidston, as I liked shabby chic then. I’ve still got a few of their dessert plates in my kitchen cupboard.

I’ll be sad to see the St Ives store go... it is super cute to look around.

DysonFury · 22/04/2020 07:26

The price reflects the quality which is far superior to your bog standard high street fair and way better than the likes of Joules.
They also stocked a lovely range of styles and fabrics.
Any Cath Kidston items I've bought for DD have been passed on to various friends DC and lasted for ages, the same certainly cannot be said for other high street brands.

Honeybee85 · 22/04/2020 07:29

I wonder if here in Asia it's going to be same as well. It's quite popular here though I never bought anything there, overpriced imo. I prefer PiP Studio.

WilburIsSomePig · 22/04/2020 07:29

Well, it's not my cup of tea but there are many, many companies that I think sell overpriced wank. I wouldn't like to see any of them go under and thousands of people lose their jobs.

DrManhattan · 22/04/2020 07:31

Agree. Apart from the baby stuff I am surprised they sold anything.

caffeinefix · 22/04/2020 07:32

One of my favourite shops Sad

LaurieMarlow · 22/04/2020 07:32

I kinda liked it for the odd thing. The high street looks decimated already. Where will this end?

SimonJT · 22/04/2020 07:33

My son has quite a lot of clothes from there, he has lots of the current dinosaur collection, they’re decent quality and always good enough to be passed on to a friends little one.

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2020 07:33

I think tastes changed, fashionmoved on but they failed to move with it, which is what led to their demise ultimately.

dayswithaY · 22/04/2020 07:34

They have a very particular look which is now so dated. The same goes for Laura Ashley - all those pastels and florals have had their time and now everyone goes for grey and minimalism. If your brand is built on a specific look then you do back yourself into a corner when tastes change.

KnobwithaK · 22/04/2020 07:35

Agree with @FlowerArranger that the mugs were good, mainly because they were massive, and I love a massive cup of tea.

Poor staff though, must be shit. Sad

TheWordmeister · 22/04/2020 07:36

I was amazed it kept going this long, tbh.

RingtheBells · 22/04/2020 07:36

I like the large washbags as they are sturdy and fit all my stuff in, I use them when we go caravanning. DH has one alsoGrin, maybe I should get a couple more if I still can. They are a bit big and chunky to fit in a suitcase for holiday though so limited use.

Sadie789 · 22/04/2020 07:36

If it wasn’t for you why should care either way? Why even comment? Unless it’s a thinly veiled dig at people who do like Cath Kidston? In which case, unnecessarily nasty.

By the way, I’m not a Cath Kidston fan and I didn’t know it was closing. Just can’t be doing with the little poisonous arrows being chucked about for no reason.
