To think people shouldn't walk to my village?

Hello,

With the knowledge that this will make me sound quite snooty, I firstly apologise and explain it is because I worry for my own and family's safety as we are all asthmatic and at heightened risk from COVID-19.

We live in a very pretty little village, in a small conservation area in a semi rural location. We are about 2 miles from the nearest modern housing estate. Usually, the lane through the village has a couple of regular dog walkers.

Now that we are lockdown and people are getting out to exercise in the sun (great), the lane is like a motorway. There is a constant stream of people from the housing estate coming for their walk to the village. I understand it must be dull to walk around a modern housing estate. Over 500m there were 30 people. Usually you might see 1. We can't even go for a short walk without risk of coming into contact with people.

Entire large families are coming with 5-6 children out of control on bikes etc, treating the lane past our houses like a park. I've spotted people touching our walls, gates etc, even caught one nosing in the garden!

Many of these people are not staying into the side to observe social distancing, and have dogs off the lead that need to be fetched away.

AIBU to think people should stick to their own areas for their exercise? In a way, I something feel that if they wanted beautiful walks outside their front-door they should have coughed up the extra £100k to live here...

Realistically the OP isn't going to come back. I did wonder if she lives in Ditchling but there's more than a 100k price differential to live there.

I can't work out whether the reference to someone nosing in the garden meant they were peering over the wall or were actually in in the garden - if the latter then that is quite annoying. If the former, a cheery wave and "Hello!" will make all but the most bold move on.

augustusglupe · 21/04/2020 15:26

Modern housing estate Grin
Oh OP I live in a vair posh village, but tbh not everyone in said posh village is quite as well bred as they like to think!!
You’ve given me a laugh though.

HedgehogHotel · 21/04/2020 15:26

Of course people from poorer areas should stick to their own slums.

Hmm

YABVU.

If you weren't so snotty about it I would be on your side OP. Where we live is a really narrow road with blind corners and narrow pavement on one side. People are riding their bikes on the pavement to avoid the cars and buses, jogging up behind others, stopping in groups on driveways to chat, etc. It's impossible to practice social distancing. We've been going out at 6.30 in the morning or late at night to try to avoid people - it's still busy at that time but not so bad. There are other routes where there is common land on both sides so it's easy to distance, but the short stretch we live on forms a "round trip." I really wish people would bear that in mind when they are thinking about where they are going because people on our little bit don't have a choice. There are lots of vulnerable people on our stretch as well - older people for example who can't dodge out of the way of bikes easily. Nothing to do with house prices though.

yestonodressyet · 21/04/2020 15:27

I see OP doesn't have the gall to come and defend their comments now! Nothing like pulling together and being kind to others in a global pandemic is there OP!

FixItUpChappie · 21/04/2020 15:27

If this virus has taught us anything, it's that lower paid workers are more useful in an emergency than rich people.

^^This, definitely this. Sorry people are using the world around your house OP Hmm

TeeniefaeTroon · 21/04/2020 15:27

I wonder if you're the woman who put something very similar on our local Facebook page. 🤔

countrygirl99 · 21/04/2020 15:27

Have a heart people. The government decreed that grips are not essential so the grip shops had to shut. Poor OP is the result of that short termist point of view.

Billyeyelash · 21/04/2020 15:28

I am noseying in everyones garden at the moment. Its a perk of the virus - what plants will I buy next.

@Bohwens you are such an asshole - I have to assume this thread is a wind up Grin

JellyfishandShells · 21/04/2020 15:29

A wind up, surely ? Hmm ?

bulletjournalbilly · 21/04/2020 15:29

Absolute cunts. How dare they walk into "your" village.

wildcherries · 21/04/2020 15:30

You're unreasonable for this alone. Here's a grip.

Alsohuman · 21/04/2020 15:31

Lovely wind up, OP. The really staggering thing is that 12% of voters agree with you. Of course they may have done that for devilment.

canonlydoblue · 21/04/2020 15:31

Comedy gold. Well played OP.

Crazycactuslady · 21/04/2020 15:31

Is this for real?! Hmm I live in a nice rural area etc. more people have been walking down our little lane with their dogs/kids etc. They stop to see our chickens on the other side of the little lane and have a yelled conversation on the way past. Ironically, I've spoken to yelled at from the other side of the allotment more people in the last however many weeks (what day is it?!) from a variety of housing situations Hmm in our local area than I have ever done. It's fab! It'd be very lonely otherwise, being stuck at home whilst heavily pregnant with a husband who works 37,000 hours or whatever a day.

JustHereWithPopcorn · 21/04/2020 15:32

It's supposed to be really nice weather this week.

Hopefully LOTS more people come and annoy you Grin

Namesgonenow · 21/04/2020 15:34

Wind them up
Wind them up
Let them froth
Like a broth.

Sit beneath
A creaking bridge
And watch them hiss
And watch them twitch.

4DrivetPrive · 21/04/2020 15:35

If this is real it's a shame OP can't just cough up 100k for a kinder personality.

Seeing people look at my flowers and smile makes me happy even in better times, if they bring a tiny bit of joy to others now? Well worth the time I put in. I can't imagine wanting to hide them away from view.

FindHimForThreeKillHimForTen · 21/04/2020 15:36

How dare the peasants enjoy your tulips...just the idea of it!

I don't mind them looking at the cheaper ones but looking at the more expensive tulips is totally out.

I love looking and admiring gardens in my neighbourhood and surrounding areas, I will always make a comment on pretty gardens. I thought the homeowners/tenants would take it as a compliment!

No, it's cheeky. You didn't pay for those gardens. Please kindly look the other way - unless there are lovely gardens on the other side of the street. In which case, staring down at the pavement is appropriate.

VanillaSugarr · 21/04/2020 15:36

I live in a pretty village and lots of people are out walking with children and dogs. My major beef is that because there is less traffic on the roads, cars zoom along at 50-60mph through the straight section. I get very agitated because there will be an accident when a little child falls into the road (which they invariably do at the age of 3). Everyone is welcome apart from SPEEDWAY CARS in a 30 zone. Fckers.
