To not quarantine these items for 72 hrs

Carbosug · 20/04/2020 14:20

Our online shop arrived this morning. The frozen stuff and milk were wiped with antibacterial stuff and put away. Everything else has been left n the 72 hr box.

However, there is wine in there. And there is chocolate in there. WIBU to release them early from quarantine Smile

Well I am worried about recieving any parcels .Had to order some new sandals .Am touching packaging with rubber gloves ,then putting box into a dustbin liner /and leaving under a tree in the garden for 3 days!washing rubber gloves in bleach spray!(hoping weather stays dry obv) Am quite sane normally!

Willyoujustbequiet · 20/04/2020 15:15

Definitely wipe the wine lol

I'm shocked at some posters scoffing at the idea of quarantine for shopping. The virus survives for a couple of days on surfaces. Touching the surfaces is a tranmission route

Have you been living in a cave?

dottiedodah · 20/04/2020 15:16

Well I like your light hearted tone anyway ! Release the wine early .wipe
bottle down with Anti bac spray and dry.Wipe chocolate wrapper with a wet wipe and discard. Inhale chocolate ASAP!

But why @dottiedodah?! You'd achieve exactly the same by just washing your hands instead of wearing gloves?!

dottiedodah · 20/04/2020 15:31

Wombat Stew fortea yes you are quite right there!Truth is I have become paranoid lately (along with many others I expect!)

Clymene · 20/04/2020 15:41

We know the virus was in the uk long before lock down started. You are very very unlikely to get it from packaging if you practice good hygiene.

Just wash your hands

81Byerley · 20/04/2020 15:44

@coconuttelegraph I agree with you. I do wash the fruit and veg though...but then I always have. When first shut in I sprayed a box with Dettol all in one disinfection spray. I don't think it kills off Covid19, but I discovered that it is excellent to stop people stealing your identity, as a quick spray on labels makes your name and address disappear!

Qwertynumbers · 20/04/2020 15:46

Yes! Go for it!

I'm early pregnancy and washing the shopping too, albeit in Seventh Generation low chemical washing up liquid rather than risking bleach or anything like that

Once I'm out of first trimester and risks are smaller to the baby (albeit probably bigger for me) I'll stop washing and quarantining the shopping

I've got time, there are no chemicals getting on the food, why not? (Well, apart from because it's a gigantic pain in the arse) bye bye low risk hello no risk (or even lower risk)

Enjoy your wine and chocolate and ignore the mumsnet miseries!

Qwertynumbers · 20/04/2020 15:48

A tip for beers - I pop the crate in the quarantine zone but open the top fully and then wash my hands

Then DH can help himself without touching the cardboard (although cardboard only a risk for a few hours I think)

Another good thing about washing fruit and veg is it may help remove pesticide residue

okiedokieme · 20/04/2020 15:53

We don't quarantine anything, but no vulnerable people here, wfh (me) rest of household are bored students who don't leave the house (except our large garden)

PineappleDanish · 20/04/2020 15:58

Drink the wine. Eat the chocolate. We do not quarantine stuff in this house.

atenthofaclue · 20/04/2020 16:01

How did you expect anyone to guess that you simultaneously take quarantining your food shopping very, very seriously but also consider the possibility of removing certain items early from quarantine to be a topic for light relief from the stress of quarantining stuff?!

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/04/2020 16:02

Just drink the wine and calm down lol

grumpyfuckerr · 20/04/2020 16:06

Can’t you just wipe it down like you did the fridge stuff? If it’s good enough for the milk it’s good enough for the wine surely? Confused

Potentialmadcatlady · 20/04/2020 16:07

We quarantine everything here. We were told too. It isn’t that hard and I would rather know I tried everything than half heartedly did things. It isn’t ‘being bat shit crazy’ or any of the other suggestions and it effects no one but my family so I really don’t know why those of you not quarantining/washing items etc like to have a go at those of us that are🤷‍♀️
OP... if it was an emergency/ which this clearly is ( tongue in cheek before anyone has a go at me) I would wash the outside of the bottle, open it then wast my hands etc and then drink away! It’s the least you deserve 😊

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/04/2020 16:13

Umm nobody is having a go at you. If you want to wash your shopping go for it, people are however allowed to think differently to you and yes people are allowed to think it’s madness. They haven’t banned free thinking in lockdown yet

BlueGheko · 20/04/2020 16:13

Honestly it's highly highly unlikely the virus can be spread on shopping. They don't even know if it can be transmitted via fomites at all yet. All they do know is that the virus can be swabbed on certain materials after several hours/days but that doesn't mean it can be transmitted this way. At a push your shopping would have to had been sneezed on by someone covid-19 positive very near to time of delivery. You would then of course have to touch your mouth/nose/eyes without washing your hands. Seriously, washing hands after touching packaging is enough.

PineappleDanish · 20/04/2020 16:14

We quarantine everything here. We were told too

Who told you to?

lboogy · 20/04/2020 16:14

I wipe every single item down with a light solution of bleach. So no need to quarantine anything

Potentialmadcatlady · 20/04/2020 16:21

Without giving details on here a consultant.

Chickychoccyegg · 20/04/2020 16:24

i don't quarantine anything, but definitely wouldn't quarantine the wine snd chocolate Smile
i don't even wipe the shopping down, but do wash my hands alot, when touching the food packaging, but i've always done that

MaggieFS · 20/04/2020 17:00

Anything needed gets a bleach wipe or a soapy wash and anything not needed goes into the 72hr shed.

The more one is in contact with, the more one's risk increases so I see this as a simple way of reducing the risk. No gloves just thorough hand washing afterwards. Doesn't affect anyone else. And I've always been a bit batshit Smile

MigginsMs · 20/04/2020 17:01

I don’t quarantine anything , but if you do just give everything a wipe and wash your hands.

Enjoy your wine and choc

UnaCorda · 20/04/2020 17:27

Good Lord. Why not just remove packaging, throw away (as you normally would) and wash your hands?

Clymene · 20/04/2020 18:13

How are some of you going to cope when lockdown ends? Confused
