Hair turned purple...help!

kikilo · 19/04/2020 19:40

My DD bleached her hair blond last week, lockdown boredom... it had some brassy tones so she bought some purple shampoo and has just got out of the shower with sections of hair a stunning shade of purple. Can we do anything to right this?
Or more accurately can we do anything to right this BEFORE TOMORROW when she has work?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Do you have any head and shoulders? If so, mix with baking powder and wash, wash, wash.

It’ll probably dry her hair out but should reduce the purple.

percentageshelp · 19/04/2020 19:46

It should fade quickly with every wash and condition so just try a couple between now and tomorrow

lpchill · 19/04/2020 19:48

Fairy liquid will balance and strip the hair. It will fade the more she washes it. Make sure you treat with a lot of conditioner as it will be dry

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 19/04/2020 19:49

Fairy liquid and then deep conditioning treatment

Azera · 19/04/2020 20:03

It will wash out don’t worry, you could always mix a bit more bleach if you have some and pull through the ends for a couple of minutes just to get rid of the purple

Just keep washing. Preferably with 'deep cleansing' shampoo, Vosene, Head & Shoulders it similar.

Have a really good conditioner on stand by.

Head and shoulders worked when I did this and had a job where ‘extreme hairstyles’ were frowned on.
Now i would just embrace it and rock up at work as though it was intentional.

kikilo · 19/04/2020 20:27

She is back in the shower with head and shoulders and washing up liquid and conditioner! @Partychaos I think if it was more even she would have embraced it, but is really patchy. Here's hoping for less purple...

Why exactly did she wash her bleached hair with purple shampoo if she didn't want it to go purple? Confused

kikilo · 19/04/2020 20:54

@aurynne she searched for how to stop blonde hair looking brassy, and the wonderful interweb suggested colour protect purple shampoo....

If that doesn't work, crushed vitamin c tablets mixed to a foam with shampoo, leave it on ideally for an hour. It shifts almost anything.

Jellykat · 19/04/2020 20:58

When you say Purple shampoo, i presume you mean a touch of silver shampoo? It does knock out brassy tones, but if shes just bleached, her hair will be really porous.. plus it has to be put on really evenly.
Will wash out though..

aurynne · 19/04/2020 21:03

Well it did what it promised then, I bet it doesn't look brassy anymore Grin

dementedpixie · 19/04/2020 21:06

She must have left it on too long. It takes brassy tones out but if left on too long will stain it purple

DivaRainbow · 19/04/2020 21:08

Any chance she put the shampoo on dry hair?

Chelsea567 · 19/04/2020 21:13

Loads of people try to get purple hair using purple shampoo!! Pretend you wanted purple hold your head high and enjoy it!!

Samtsirch · 19/04/2020 21:38

Try tomato ketchup.
I am not joking, it worked for my daughter, she soaked her purple hair in ketchup for about 15 mins then rinsed.
It significantly faded the purple.
Otherwise she will have to style it out, lol, as@Chelsea567 says.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2020 21:42

Thought ketchup was for green tinged hair

RedRed9 · 19/04/2020 21:44

It says on the bottle not to use it until two weeks after bleaching. At least mine does.

Lesson learnt!

Hope it comes out ok and her hair isn’t left too dry.

goose1964 · 19/04/2020 21:45

A friend of mine did smilar, bleached and a blue rinse because she wanted purple hair. I'm assuming she's not allowed coloured hair in work or she could just brazen it out.

RedRed9 · 19/04/2020 21:47

Also, a mistake lots of people make is thinking that toner (or purple shampoo) can lift their hair out of the yellow/brassy stage.

It can lesson brassy undertones but if the bleach hasn’t lifted the hair enough then nothing is going to make it lighter. Not toner or purple/silver shampoo. If she wants it lighter she’ll need to do a second bleach (and be really incredibly careful that all her hair doesn’t break off).

PutTheNeedleOnIt · 19/04/2020 21:49

It will wash out quickly.

Tell her you can't use purple shampoos etc until the bleach has been on for a couple of weeks.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 19/04/2020 21:57

Any shampoo that isn’t for coloured hair should tone it down/strip it out slightly.

Even washing up liquid, if your short of non coloured hair shampoo. Just keep washing it

I remember the horrors I done to my hair in my teens.....Good luck 😃

kikilo · 19/04/2020 21:58

Thank you everyone, it's still very purple in patches, hey hum, lesson learned. Not in work till tomorrow afternoon so still time for several washes between now and then....

Oooof been there, done that.

Head and shoulders works a treat, especially if left of the area for 5 - 10 minutes. Condition really well afterwards.
Try to avoid washing up liquid, it does no good whatsoever.

If she has bleach and peroxide left over get her to look up how to mix up a bleach bath. That can also help and isn't as harsh as plain bleach.
